Message from our local Community Health Centre & Staff

INFLUENZA VIRUS IS IN THE AREA! The main symptoms are high fevers, aching muscles and bone aches. People have
been really unwell with this virus so if you have these symptoms PLEASE:

1) Stay home if you can, avoid seeing other people, DO NOT PASS IT ON to: kaumtua, wahine hapu and people with dis-
eases such as asthma and emphysema are most at risk.

2) Drink plenty of fluids! High fever = sweat = loss of fluid, dehydrated bodies have more trouble fighting the virus.

3) Regular Paracetamol and Ibuprofen can help with the fevers and aches.

4) Increase your Vitamin C intake i.e. lemons, oranges, mandarins etc. Lemon + honey + garlic = perfect hot drink!

5) This is a VIRUS, antibiotics DO NOT help fight the virus. Some people may develop a bacterial infection on top of the virus,
this is rare in young healthy adults.

6) COVER any coughs and sneezes. WASH YOUR HANDS!

7) Concerned? Then contact the clinic for an appointment! (PLEASE NOTE: If you can, please inform reception of your cur-
rent flu/virus so we are able to accommodate your sickness.
Kia kaha ttou!
