Goods and Services Tax (GST) Launched
On July 1, India launched its ambitious pan-India indirect tax regime, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to bind the
country into a regime of one nation, one tax, one market . The Goods and Services Tax (GST) was first proposed
17 years ago.
Press Information Bureau, has launched a special page for the Goods and Services Tax. The webpage can be

GST Council has reduced the tax rate on fertiliser to 5 per cent from previously decided 12 per cent.

The government has launched a GST training programme to skill around two lakh youths in six months to handle
tax compliance issues like invoice making. The people would be trained under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas
Yojana (PMKVY).
Five categories of transactions have now been kept out of this restriction through an executive order from CBDT. These
are:
receipt by a white label ATM operator from retail outlet sources on behalf of a bank or cooperative bank;
receipt by a company or institution issuing credit cards against bills raised in respect of one or more credit cards.
Also, money received on account of an award or reward instituted by Central or State government would now not be
covered under the 2-lakh cash transaction limit.

May, 2017 to 3rd May, 2018. It can be purchased offline as well as online through Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India
which has been given the sole privilege to operate this scheme
Scheme provides an assured return of 8% p.a. payable monthly (equivalent to 8.30% p.a. effective) for 10 years.
Pension is payable at the end of each period, during the policy term of 10 years, as per the frequency of monthly/
quarterly/ half-yearly/ yearly as chosen by the pensioner at the time of purchase.
