Book Contents

When flipping through the pages of the book, I first notice that there is a huge list of all

of the other books that Tom Clancy has written. So if you enjoy this one, there are plenty more

to dive into. There is also a list of all of the characters in the story. It gives their name and what

their rank is in the army. The last piece of major content in this book other than the actual story

is 3 maps. These maps show a detailed view of the places that the story takes place at. The

places include the Prince of Wales Strait, the Northwest Territories, and Alberta and some of its

major cities.

Author Information

The author of this story, David Michaels, is actually a pseudonym for the authors of

novels in the Splinter Cell, EndWar, H.A.W.X, and Ghost Recon series. All of these novels are also

video games created b

y Ubisoft Entertainment. When these series were added onto however, David Michaels did not

write them. The series were continued by authors like Raymond Benson, Grant Blackwood, and

Peter Telep.

This story was really created by Tom Clancy who is known for creating military related

stories. His most famous stories include The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and

Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears. Many of his stories have been turned into successful

films including arguably the most famous of them all being The Hunt for Red October.

End War Plot Summary

The story begins with the United States finally capturing a Russian man they have been

searching for. He is a GRU Colonel and his name is Gru Doletskaya from Moscow. The story then

shifts to explain that United States sergeant that goes by the name Vatz, Is the only American

to make it out of Russia after a war.

After talking a little while about how Vatz made it out of Russia alive, the story goes back

to the United States and Gru is interrogated relentlessly in an attempt to get out as much

information possible. They do not have very good luck due to the fact that he has been trained

to take unbelievable amounts of pain. The Colonel is sent to Cuba because they have no use for

him sitting in a cell in the United States.

After sending the Colonel to Cuba, the U.S. decides that this is not a safe place for him

and send a team called the Outlaw Team to extract Gru from Cuba and bring him back to the

United States. Their plan heading to Cuba ends up getting shot down so they are never

successful in bringing Colonel Gru back to the U.S.

The story then takes a turn and explains how this war had begun. Iran and Saudi Arabia

had a huge war so much of their oil went to ruin. Russia had become the leading oil producer

giving Russia a lot of power. More than the U.S. would like them to have. Europe also changes

becoming the European Federation. Another great power that arises is a more mysterious group

called the Green Brigade that really becomes known after they shoot down the Freedom Star

which is a space ship.

The leader of this Green Brigade called the Green Vox decides to plant bombs in two

Calgary and Edmonton which are two oil rich cities. This causes the world to turn on Russia

because their President seems to be working with the Green Vox leader. A group called the

NEST (Nuclear Emergency Support Team) is sent to defuse the bombs. They succeed in doing so

but one man risks his life by jumping on a grenade to save the rest of his comrades. This keeps

the world from going into a massive world war.

Book Critique

I really enjoyed this book mainly due to the fact that there was tons of action. An

example of a quote that really exemplifies the amount of action in this story is The two

Spetsnaz soldiers collapsed to the puddles (Clancy 17). This shows the concept of duty because

these soldiers have orders to kill the enemy and they show no hesitation when send these two

Spetsnaz to the ground. Another thing that I enjoyed about this story is that the dialogue

actually sounds like real people talking in real life. Rather than sounding like a story, this sounds

like everyday people with everyday problems. A quote that shows this is Becerra rubbed the

corners of his eyes, took a deep breath. You have it, General. Take out the station. (117). Now

as you can tell from this quote, Becerra is stressed about decision. It is details like this that

makes this story intriguing and fun to follow along. This quote shows the concept of integrity.

Rather than making a blind decision to kill a large group of people, Becerra takes the time to

weigh the consequences which shows that he understands the amount of life that is at risk.

Finally, I enjoyed this story because of the amount of military terms the used. A quote that is an

example of this is being fitted into body armor by two vehicle gunners from the master

sergeants platoon (320). It is terms like this that really creates a military environment and for

someone that is really interested by the military, makes this story a fun read. This quote shows

the concept of preservation. A leader in the military was able to rally up civilians and put body

armor on them and assimilate them into the platoon. The civilians must have been very scared

to do such a thing but leader was able to persevere and lead them in the right way.
