Welcome to Mr. Nagymarosi's
Junior SSC classroom. I hope you all
had a wonderful summer. I am very
excited for this upcoming year and
look forward to working with
everyone. Each month you will
receive a monthly newsletter that
will outline important dates, big
ideas in our math and language
program , and showcase some of the
learning that is taking place inside
our classroom.
M ATH LITERACY
Problem solving will be a key A Balance Literacy Program
component in our math class. Here is
an example from our Problem of the
Week Board.
Aiden goes to the bakery to buy a cake
for his dad?s birthday. The cake costs
$8.75. He uses a $10 bill to pay for the
cake and gets change in return. In
Canada there are 5 coins (nickels),
10 coins (dimes), 25 coins (quarters),
$1 coins (loonies) and $2 coins
(toonies), and 100 is equal to $1.
