APP REVIEW: THERES AN APP FOR THAT! 2
Rationale: This app asks you a series of questions about your child's reading abilities and if you will be reading
with them. It then downloads four free books targeted to your childs reading level, with options for read along
out loud. The more advanced Read Me Stories app provides a library of titles organized into series with topics
such as Animals, Tales of Life, and Tales of Adventure. You can download the first title in each series for free.
Then they have the option to listen to the book being read or to read the book on their own. The stories are all in
picture books suitable for kindergarten to grade 3. Perfect for guided reading or take home snuggle up
program.

Rationale: This app is a mind-mapping tool designed to help young readers and writers in grades K-5 learn to
organize and classify information, gain sight word knowledge and expand their ideas into written and verbal

Rationale: This app is a great tool for children who have autism. It is an application that helps kids understand
the names of certain objects and people and also what they do. So not only do they get word recognition with
picture cues but also they understand what the function of the object or person is. The application works by
showing three objects and asking which one does the specific job and the child will tap on the object that fulfills
the job and they can connect the image with the function.

Rationale: This app is a great tool for students in grade 1 and it is specifically tailored to the common core
math skills in their grade level. You can choose the skills and the difficulty levels from all subject areas in the
grade one curriculum and they earn origami fish for their aquariums as they go. As they ear fish they can feed
them, make them chase each other or drop anvils on the crabs. This is a motivator for the students to earn
rewards for completing the challenges and parents can view progress or get email notifications of their childs
progress.

Rationale: This app is a great tool for science experiments. You can search for science experiments and it tells
you what youll need, the age group, the subject of science it caters to, and the amount of time you will need.
All the experiments are easy to do and have science explanations to go along with them. It is valuable for
creativity in the science curriculum in the classroom.

Rationale: This app is a very fun tool that allows you to create stories with sock puppets. The students create
the narration and the sock puppets move around the different backgrounds you choose. When you play the
video the sock puppets actually look like they are talking. It is very user friendly and kids have a chance to
record their stories and share them with their friends if they are too shy to read them on their own or they can
use it to practice retelling stories in a fun way.

Rationale: This app is similar to the books that help kids draw with tracing lines and visuals to copy step by
step. You drag your finger to draw and if you give the app permission it can access your camera and kids can
take pictures that are then turned into drawing lessons. Its a fun tool to get kids drawing and to help with their
confidence in the area of visual arts. They can chose from a variety of templates and images to draw and it is a
fun addition to the classroom.
