II. Understanding of Christian Community about Reconciliation and Forgiveness of Sins

Christians believe that Christ sent his disciples to proclaim the Gospel; whoever repents and
believes is forgiven on the merits of the sacrifice of Christ, whoever rejects Christ is lost. Christians
confess their sins to God and when necessary to each other as well to maintain peace in the church.

Jesus clearly warned that God will not forgive our sins if we do not forgive those who sin against
us (Matthew 6:14-15; Mark 11:25). It's not that we earn God's forgiveness by forgiving; instead,
God expects forgiven people to forgive (Matthew 18:21-35). Yet forgiveness is very different from
reconciliation. It's possible to forgive someone without offering immediate reconciliation.

The Bible speaks that reconciliation is the restoration of relationship on three levels: God and
humanity, human beings with one another and lastly, God and creation. Sin separate us from the
love of God. Men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who
does evil hates light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. As it
is stated in John 3:16 For God so love the world that He gave His Only Begottenn Son that
whatsoever believe on him shall not perish but have an everlasting life. God did not send His Son
into the world to condemn the worl, but to save the world through Him. God gave His Son Jesus
Christ to save and pay from all our sins and death of Christ gave is salvation. Jesus suffered and
died to save usfrom our sins but He resurrected again and gave us new life.

God calls men to repent from sinful lifestyle. If we leave the life of sin and turn to God and accept
Him as our personal savior, we are forgiven, our sins may be wiped out. On 2 Corinthians 5:11-
17, Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain
to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. We are not trying to commend ourselves to
you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who
take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart. If we are out of our mind, as some
say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. For Christs love compels us, because
we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who
live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. So,
from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in
this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old
has gone, the new is here!
We already accept Jesus Christ in our life and from the time we accept Him, the broken relationship
caused by the sin is restored again. We are a new creation, the old has gone and the new has come.
And all this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of
reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ. God doesnt count mens
sins against them. He has committed to us the message of reconciliation which is the Gospel. We
are therefore, Christs Ambassador, as though God were making His appeal through us and we
might become the righteousness of God. Whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it
may be seen plainly that we have done has been done through God. Be like Christ and live the life
of God.

III. Church Celebration of Reconciliation

Church of God Las Pinas is a born again Christian church and it celebrates reconciliation through
communion every end of the month. It is the remembrance of Christ as stated in Luke 22:19-20
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, This is my body given
for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after the supper he took the cup,
saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
Reconciliation is such great news that we need to celebrate it. It is a celebration of Gods power to
make all things new for us. Contrast this spirit, if you will, with the experiences we have of
confession. Going to confession, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, conjures up different images
for different people. On a feeling level, there was often a sense of dread and apprehension
associated with going to confession. It was a little bit like the feeling one might have anticipating
a visit to the doctor or the dentist. When it was over, there was a sense of relief a kind of glad
thats over feeling.
