Welcome to Starport Summer Camp

Hello Starport Summer Camp partner! We are very excited that you allowed us to host your specialty camp. We look
forward to providing our campers with a fun, active, safe, and quality summer experience. I wanted to make sure to relay
all the necessary camp information that you may need before your session begins.

Some key points that Id like to mention:

Room assignments:
Specialty Camps will be held in classrooms, conference rooms, gymnasium and on outdoor sports field.
Instructors should check-in at the Gilruth Member Services Desk for room assignment.
Camp space will have a standard setup unless a special setup is requested.
WIFI requests should be submitted at least 48hrs in advance.
Hydration station will be setup for all outdoor sports camps.
Supplies should not be left in room overnight unless prior authorization has been given.

Communication:
Instructor will be given a radio (set to channel 2) to communicate with front desk, camp director and program
manager.
Radio should be returned to camp director each day at the end of session.

Camp Rosters:
Instructors will be provided rosters for each session. Instructors are required to take roll each day.
Please report to Starport Camp Director any campers that are not present prior to session start.

Camper drop-offs and pick-ups:

Camper drop off and pick up will be in the lobby of the Gilruth Center (near the gymnasium). A table will be set
up outside with a counselor to sign in campers. All parents and individuals authorized to pick up child(ren) must
show identification.
Campers cannot be dropped off directly to specialty camp session.

Bluebonnet rendezvous until building has been cleared by JSC Fire Safety and B207 Fire Warden. Once cleared
the patrons may re-enter the building.
Escorting Campers around Facility:
Hallway Procedures
Campers should be silent when transitioning from room to room.

Explain to campers why it is important that we are quiet in the hallways (People are trying to work, there
is a massage going on, etc.).

Make sure your group has stopped talking before you leave any room.

Have campers walk in single file line when transitioning from room to room.

If/When campers are stopped in hallways, have campers lined up to the right (on the wall) this should
eliminate any traffic jams.

Be courteous- always let adults (i.e. people who work at the Gilruth, customers, people who are here for a
conference, etc.) go ahead of you waiting for 20 children to climb the stairs might take a while

Parking Lot Procedures

NEVER allow campers to escort themselves across the parking lot.

A counselor must always be in front of the line and another needs to be at the end of the line (Counselor
Campers Counselor).

Do not permit campers to run in the parking lot.

Have campers walk in a single file line, arms length apart from one another. There should not be any
large gaps or holes in your line.

If younger campers are struggling to close gaps, try having them hold hands while they walk.

Keep an eye out for vehicles backing out - make sure that they see you and the campers.
Medical Care:
Should your camper need medical attention, the camp staff will try to notify parents immediately for incidents that need
treatment beyond basic first aid. If parents cannot be reached, the camp staff has the authority to seek medical attention at
the parents expense. If the situation is a major medical emergency, the camp staff will call 911 immediately. All medical
issues will be logged and documented for parents review.

Restroom Policy:
For safety purposes, campers are not permitted to escort themselves to the restroom. All campers use the same designated
restroom; boys and girls are taken separately- we do not allow boys and girls to use the restroom together. Camp staff will
make sure the restroom is empty before allowing campers to enter, and will not permit anyone to enter while campers are
using the facility. Restroom 1VWSE is currently the camps designated restroom; it will be converted to a unisex, single
use lavatory in the months to come.
