VIDEO LESSON PLANS FOR ARTWORK

1 Elementary Art Lesson: Aboriginal Lizard Design:

a) Materials: poster board, construction paper, crayons, markers, tracing outline of lizard, photocopy

pictures of a lizard and tape.

b) This is a video lesson plan explaining the step by step directions for creating an art poster of an

aboriginal lizard. In this video, the instructor outlines the steps for students to follow along.

c) I chose standard Standard - CC.1.5.3. A Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions

on grade-level topics and texts, building on others ideas and expressing their own clearly. Because

this activity will be conducted in a group, it will be important for the students to collaborate

collectively on their approach to the assignment and draw from each others ideas in the process.

d) The accommodations would be giving the picture of the lizard to color rather than have them draw it.

Differentiation includes breaking the class into groups and allowing them to develop their own

unique way of drawing the picture.

2 Kandinsky Circle Art Lesson for Elementary Students:

a) Materials: Assorted colors of construction paper, colored pencils and markers, oil pastel, gloves,

paper towels.

b) This video lesson plan explains how to draw circle pattern rings on construction paper.
c) The standard I used for this lesson plan is Standard - CC.1.5.3.E: Speak in complete sentences when

appropriate to task and situation to provide requested detail or clarification. For this assignment, I

am looking for opportunities for students to verbally express themselves appropriately when relating

to the assignment

d) The accommodations I would make would include pairing second language learners with the more

advance art students in class to help guide them in this project. For differentiation, I would play a

short video visually explaining the process for completing the assignment.

3 Eric Carle Paper Collage The Very Hungry Caterpillar:

a) For This video outlines the process for completing an art project that would be completed over a

week.

b) Materials: Distinct colors of paint, paint brushes, white construction paper, colored construction

paper, scissors, glue, thin sheets of colored paper.

c) The standard I will use for this lesson plan is Standard - 9.1.3.D Use knowledge of varied styles

within each art form through a performance or exhibition of unique work. Prior to this project we

will read about paintings and how to mix colors of paint to create a unique work of art that describes

the individual. I will instruct student to use a style of coloring their picture and refer to it when

completing it.

define objects, express emotions, illustrate an action or relate an experience through creation of works in

the arts. The class will be allowed to create a work of art that describes their neighborhood and

environment where they live.

d) The accommodation I would make for this project would be creating a buddy system for those students

who are not as advanced with drawing and coloring with students who are. The differentiation technique

I would implement will include allowing students to watch different videos explaining how to draw folk

art.

5 Third grade Pop Art Cats

a) This is a lesson that involves drawing and coloring. This activity focuses on patterns and following

drawings in a specific sequence.

b) Materials: Construction paper, colored pencils, black permanent marker, crayons, colored markers,

and ruler.

c) The standard that I will be using for this assignment is Standard - 9.1.3.F: Identify works of others

through a performance or exhibition (e.g., exhibition of student paintings based on the study of

Picasso). I will have a class where the students learn about different artist and their works of art.

Afterwards, I will pass handouts and have the students chose which work they want to draw.

d) For differentiation, I would use papers with the lines and guides on the paper for students who

struggles with drawing and pair the groups to have them work together to collaborate. For

accommodations, printing drawings of famous works and having those students color instead of

draw and color.

6 Art Lessons for Kids: Scribble Art

a) This lesson is not as structed as it allows the students to sort of freelance and create freely without

the structure of a typical lesson.

b) Materials: Colored pencils, construction paper, markers. Scissors.

c) The standard that I will use is Standard - 9.1.3.H Handle materials, equipment and tools safely at

work and performance spaces. The expectation that will be taught to the students is safety and how

to use their materials in a responsible manner. Also, I want to emphasize the importance of safety,

being as though they will be using scissors.

d) For differentiation, I would allow students to choose which patterns they want to follow when

coloring. For accommodations, allowing certain students to scribble on the paper using their own

style and not having to follow the outline provided.

7 Art Lessons for Kids: Optical Illusion

a) This lesson helps keep kids engaged by showing them how to create works of art that can be viewed

differently based on the viewers perception.

b) Materials: Ruler, colored pencils, pencils, markers, crayons, construction paper.

c) The standard I will use to evaluate the students will be to know classification skills with materials

and processes used to create works in the arts (e.g., sorting and matching textiles, musical chants,

television comedies). With this project, the students will have to properly color the different shapes

in a matching pattern for their work to have an optical illusion effect on the viewer. Special attention

must be given to ensure students are following directions.

d) For differentiation, I will allow students to pick the design that they feel most comfortable with. For

accommodations, I will work side by side with students with delays to ensure the assignment is

completed correctly.

8 Art Lessons for Kids: African Pottery Drawing:

a) This lesson plan teaches students how to draw patterns for African objects.

b) Materials: Construction paper, crayons, oil pastels, pictures of African pottery, glue and scissors.

c) For this lesson plan, I am implementing Standard - 9.3.3.F Know how to recognize and identify

similar and different characteristics among works in the arts (e.g., Amish and Hawaiian quilts,

Navaho weavings and Kente cloth from West Africa). After the students finish their art assignment,

they will present their artwork in class and distinguish what stands out in their artwork as opposed to

others in class

d) For differentiation, I am allowing the students to work in groups of two and collaborate on which

style of art they want to draw. For Accommodations, I will allow students with disabilities to pick

out the pictures they want to present to the class and explain them.

c) Standard - 9.2.3.J Identify, explain and analyze historical and cultural differences as they relate to

works in the arts (e.g., PLAYS BY Shakespeare, works by Michelangelo, ethnic dance and music).
I want students to see the difference with artwork from this artist as opposed to other artist from

different areas and regions. To improve their critical thinking skills, ask questions that relate to the

area they are from and how that factor plays into the difference in artwork.

For accommodations, I would allow ESL students to watch a tutorial in their native language to

better understand the concept. For differentiation, having the class watch a video on drawing artwork

from other artist to gain insight and possible techniques.
