PRESIDENT DUTERTES STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS

I. SUMMARY

With the theme "A Comfortable Life for All," President Duterte delivered his speech in
line with the administration's three key agendaprosperity for all, law and order, and peace
which categorize the positive changes felt by the people. The contents of President
Dutertes speech consist of his achievements and plans within the year. In the first place,
President Duterte said that illegal drugs are the root cause of all evil, so he guaranteed that
the war on illegal drugs will proceed, regardless of global and local judgment against the said
plan. The battle against illicit drugs will proceed, until the point when the individuals who
manage it will comprehend that they need to seize, stop, or the option is either prison or hell.
For Mindanao, he said that peace keeps on evading us. "Peace of the living is what we seek."
Speaking of the war in Marawi, the president believed that the fastest way to quell rebellion
is to implement martial law in the area to control insubordination in any event cost of lives
and properties. The president advised to troops: "I stand beside you." In environmental

the matter of the effect of environmental change in sustenance security. He also asked the
entry of National Land Use Act to guarantee the judicious and feasible utilization of land,
gave the necessities of the general population. The president called on investors to put up
factories in the country to process our raw materials into finished products.

earth or he will raise charges. He additionally exhorted them to pronounce amend wage and
right expenses. He encouraged LGUs to carry out their employment without dread of
intensity against flippant mining. For calamity readiness, he said that we have to take
activities to guarantee flexibility in Greater Manila Area, that we have to act conclusively
and quick, straightforwardly take a shot at debacle readiness. He also said the need to plan
for significant cataclysms like the "Big One," an extent 7.2 magnitude earthquake to be
produced by the West Valley Fault. He requested that the Congress pass the Disaster
Response bill. The president additionally handled the issues of West Philippine Sea and
Federalism. Not surprisingly, he needs to reimpose capital punishment on shocking
wrongdoings. The president advised to pundits: " If you want to criticize, condemn the act,
stop there. Do not make it trivial by saying human rights and due process. The president

II. CONCERN ABOUT A CERTAIN TOPIC

I agree with the presidents plan to obliterate illegal drugs in the country, for I too
assume that it is one of the causes of criminality in the Philippines. There are scientific
evidences that these illicit drugs, when snorted, taken, or chewed, results to various negative
effects in the human body, including mutation of genes. Although the administrations plan
is agreeable, I do not support their way of doing itextrajudicial killings. There are many
consequences of extrajudicial killings. One is propagation of culture of violence. As people,
especially children, grow they are accustomed of the idea that killing can solve our problems
and can covey peace and security to our nation. That is not true, because I believe that
violence only begets more violence. Criminals will only be encouraged to commit more and
more violent crimes, since there is no way out for them: either to kill or get killed. Second is
the rise of a police state. Without the due procedure managed by warrants of arrest and the
privilege to a trial, we are giving excessively power to the authorities to choose what is
right or wrongand more terrible, who gets the opportunity to live or die. President Duterte
said himself that not all policemen are cleanin fact, some generals are corrupt, so why
should we give them our complete trust to manage the eradication of crime? Third is the
victimization of innocent lives: of resting young people who might never observe the light of
day; of men and ladies in the demonstration of surrender; of individuals whose exclusive
wrongdoing is to impart a name to a drug pusher, or be at an unlucky spot. Ones life is a
very precious gem to their family. A crushed gem cannot restore its value and shape after it
is accidentally crushed. Abolishing crimes through killings is not justifiable because there is
no sufficient evidence to support the death of the ALLEGED drug user. Execution of these
accused criminals is not valid and justified because no one actually has the proof of their
crime, therefore they are still innocent. Justice must be served properly. By this, I think that
extrajudicial killings is not an effective way of obliterating criminalities, especially the
usage of illegal drugs, in the country because it punishes innocent lives without any hard,
solid evidence.

III. UNSOLICITED SUGGESTIONS

Through the time being, the Philippines is undergoing such changes that the past
administrations failed to do so. By this, I want the President to be taken cared properly and
have a long life, because as long as we are under his ruling, we need a leader who will not
only set a difference, but make an actual difference in this society, and by actual
difference as I am saying, I am looking forward in diminishing criminalities in the most
humane way, and have an alternative to extrajudicial killings. Rehabilitation clinics must be
set up to deal with drug addicts who need to change or must be improved. On the off chance
that these are well-keep running with legitimately prepared and experienced staff utilizing
demonstrated procedures, drug addicts can be changed and brought over into society where
they can end up plainly helpful individuals. There ought to be a push for the anticipation of
drug use, especially among the young. Like preventive prescription, a program to guide the
adolescent far from the traps of illicit drugs would be a more compelling arrangement. In
schools and even among out-of-school adolescents, there ought to be programs that the
youngsters can discover valuable and engaging, exercises that take as much time as is
needed and give them fulfilment and also make them helpful. The schools must be a primary
target, for that is where the youth are, and that is the place the attitude must come in, through
addresses, exhibitions, wake up calls about the wretched impacts of drug use by experienced
faculty who have seen, worked in and overseen drug rehabilitation programs. In any case,
out-of-school youth should likewise be focused on similarly, with professional preparing,
lectures and demonstrations also. In other words, the war to eliminate drugs must be fought
first by changing attitudes, defining values, exercising discipline, providing alternative
activities that are useful (as in education of all kinds from vocational to academic),
entertaining and respectable.
