1. Does the SSAS comply with IMO Res. MSC.136(76) or Res. MSC.147(77) and/or IEC 60945?
2. In addition to the main power supply, is an alternative source of power available?
3. Is an alternative source of power, such as emergency power supply, a storage battery charged from the
emergency power source, or an independent battery of 6 hours or more provided?
4. Is the SSAS capable of being activated from the navigation bridge and in at least one other location?
5. Is the Ship Security Alert Messages solely addressed to competent authorities designated by the Administration?
6. Are SSAS activation points designed so as to prevent the inadvertent initiation of the SSAS? 1
7. Do the activation points operate a radio system such that transmission of the security alert does not require any
adjustment of the radio system, i.e. tuning of channels, setting of modes or menu options?
8. Once activated, does the SSAS continue to transmit the security alert until it is reset or deactivated, and is the interval
between transmissions of the alerts is as short as possible (e.g. between 15 minutes and one hour)?
9. Does operation of the activation point cause no other alarm or indication to be raised on the ship nor alert other ships?
10. Does the operation of the SSAS not impair the functionality of the GMDSS installation?
11. Does the transmission initiated by the SSAS activation points includes a unique code/identifier (ship's identity,
e.g., call sign, IMO ship identification number or MMSI number) and ship's security activation indication?
12. Where the SSAS is installed before 1 July 2004, does the transmission include ship's identity and current position?
13. Where the SSAS is installed on or after 1 July 2004, does the transmission include ship's identity and current position,
associated with a date and time?
14. Is the Ship Security Alert Messages (ship's identity, ship's position and ship's security alert activation indication)
generated automatically without input from the operator other than security alert activation?
15. Did a general inspection of the SSAS find it in satisfactory condition?
16. Has the wiring (power cable and antennae cable) been permanently installed, according to the manufacturer?
17. Has the SSAS been operationally tested, from all activation points, and was the transmission of the security alert
made to the CSO?
18. Is the SSAS capable of being tested?
19. Is an operations, maintenance and installation manual provided by the manufacturer and sighted onboard?
20. Are the Master and the SSO familiar with operation of the SSAS and, if provided, the resetting procedure?
