Alignment to curriculum standards

Overview

Curriculum and professional standards are so important in the field of education, not only

for teachers to stay on track, but to enforce teachers to adhere to while teaching students Without

standards in place there would be no uniformity in the teaching profession and students would be

learning topics based on their teachers interest rather than a standardized curriculum base. In

order to level playing field for students, there must be curriculum standards so that students are

taught the same subject matter and have an equal opportunity to succeed. Below is a chart,

demonstrating my ability to achieve these standards while planning lessons, differentiating my

teaching and assessment styles, and keeping my classroom engaged.

Curriculum & Professional Educational Standards

INTASC Standards

INTASC standards provide guidelines for content, planning, instructional practice,

assessment and professional responsibility for educators. It is a teachers responsibility to create

a safe and supportive learning environment that also promotes learning. Professional standards

help guide teachers along this continuous learning path as well as providing a code of ethics to

adhere to. Listed below are the artifacts which embody the INTASC standards,

NYS Code of Ethics Standards for Educators

The New York State Code of Ethics for Educators sets clear expectations and principles

for teaching practice. This code of ethics provides principles that all New York State teachers

must adhere to in order to ensure core values are maintained. Listed below are the artifacts which

jurisdiction. Used as a resource for teachers, it provides them with ideas for teaching these
subject areas. This ensures uniformed learning and assessment which creates a level playing field

TEAC claims ensure the quality and dignity of the Teacher Candidate students upon

Conclusion

The artifacts listed above not only demonstrate my ability to lesson plan in order to meet

curriculum standards, but show my dedication to my ability to teach in general. Of course, my

pedagogy is of the upmost importance, but there are other aspects of my personality and abilities

that will make me a great teacher that cannot be demonstrated through material things.

Throughout this section, I chose artifacts from my studies to show how I can use my education in

order to further educate my students. It is up to me as a professional to utilize the skills that I

have gained throughout my studies at DYouville and Medaille, pair them with my ability to

connect with children, and become a teacher that inspires students to reach their full potential. In

the next section, I will outline of the overall experiences that I have acquired in developing this

portfolio and how prepared I am in becoming an elementary school teacher.
