AIR WASHER TEST RIG

Aim:

To Determine The Efficency Of Air - washer

Apparatus:

Air washer unit, Wet and dry bulb temperature and psychrometer chart.

Theory:

An air washer is used for heating, cooling, humidifying and dehumidifying of the
air. In the winter season warm water is sprayed to increase the moisture content of
the dry air whereas in summer cold water is sprayed to decrease its moisture
content. Air washer is also used for cleaning of the air. The air first flows the
through the filter that separates dust from the air stream and then to the water
sprays the removes the remaining impurities by washing. The air washer is actually
an adiabatic air saturator in which the air follows a constant wet bulb process.
Knowing the dry bulb temperature of air at the inlet and outlet of the air washer,
wet bulb temperature, the efficency of air washer can be calculated as the follows.

Calculation :

t1 - t2
Efficency = ------------ x 100
t1- ts

where

t1 = Dry bulb temperature of air at inlet

t2 = Dry bulb temperature of air at outlet
ts = Wet bulb temperature of air at outlet
Procedure
1. Fill water in the sump tank
2. Start circulating water pump through the air washer
3. Adjust the flow rate by rotameter
4. Switch on the fan of air washer
5. Using refrigeration system or heating of water using
6. Wait for some time till the steady state is reached
7. Measure inlet and outlet dry bulb and wet bulb temperature of air
using hydrometer
8. Note the following reading
9. Repeat the experiment for different water flow
10.Stop the supply of water pump and the fan

NOTE: ANY ONE SYSTEM SHOULD BE OPERATED AT A TIME

USING REFRIGERATION SYSTEM THE UNIT WILL OPERATE TO

GET COOL AIR IN SUMMER (COMPRESSOR SWITCH)

OR

HEATING OF WATER USING IMMERSION HEATER (DP SWITCH)

WINTER AIR SYSTEM
