Most functions and codes are the same for all station models.
Special functions that require additional equipment are marked in the text where necessary.

Note that default directory numbers and time-out periods are used in this guide. In your ACM
system they may have been changed to meet special requirements of this ship installation. If
you are in doubt, contact the Vingtor supervisor in your company or the Vingtor Marine
service department.

1. Preparation

Some main stations are equipped with Direct Access


keys for rapidly to establish connection to frequently
used numbers or to chose a function like General or

2. Calling and Conversation between Stations

2.1. Initiating and Canceling a Handsfree Call


To call another station:
- dial the number of the wanted station

2.2. Calling to / from Noisy Areas


If stations are in a areas with disturbing background noises, either
party can manually control the speech direction.
- press the M-key while speaking

2.3. Using the Handset for Telephone Conversations

To call another station:


- Lift the handset

- Dial the number to wanted station

To end the conversation:


- Press the C-key or replace the handset

2.4. Making and Receiving Calls in Privacy Mode
According to the rules stations used in cabins and
messrooms has "Privacy" mode as standard. The

incoming calls will behave like normal telephone
calls.

Accept a call:

If the call is not accepted, it will automatically be cut off after 30 seconds (default).

2.5. Muting the Microphone

To mute the microphone

2.6. Re-dial of Last Call

Re-dial of last number is possible. The feature can be allocated to one of the Direct Access
keys. (Standard re-dial no. is 9532)

2.7. Waiting for a Busy Station to Become Free

If a station or a feature that you call is busy, you will hear a "busy" tone and stations with
display will show "busy". You have any one of the following possibilities:
- Press the C-key to cancel and try again later
or
- Wait for up to 30 seconds

If the station or feature becomes free within the pre-set time limit (default 30 seconds), you are
automatically connected.

2.8. If Someone is Not at Their Station
If you can't reach a person at their intercom station, you have several possibilities, depending
on the system configuration:
- You can activate the person's pre-programmed search list
- You can activate the person's pocket pager
- You can cancel and make a group call (or an All Call)

Depending on the priority setting and priority features assigned to your station, you can:
-Break though private setting / message
-Send a notify tone to indicate that you are waiting to get through
-Disconnect an ongoing conversation and seize the line

2.9. Inquiry Call


It is possible to make an Inquiry Call to a

2.11. Call Forwarding
If you must leave your usual station, but you want your calls to be answered anyway, you can
transfer your calls to: Another Station, Wireless Pager System, Call Request, Telephone, Group
Call, Program Conference

To transfer your calls: dial 71 + the number of the station (or feature) you want your calls
to be transferred to.
To cancel the Call Forwarding from your own station: dial 70
If the red LED (microphone on indication) is flashing and a bib-bib tone is heard in your
telephone, dial 70 and continue dialing 0 until the station is cancelling.
To cancel from a remote station: dial 73 + your station number.
To turn on Call Forwarding from a remote station: see Follow me.

2.12. Follow me
If you are temporarily working away from your own office, you can have your calls re-routed
to you.

At your new location: dial 72 + dial your own stations number.

2.13. Wake-up Call


To enter the wake-up time:
Dial 7883 ,
enter the time (hour, minutes),
enter the day (day, month) or dial M if it is within 24 hours.
When the time is reached, the station rings.
To stop the ringing tone:
press a key on the station or lift the handset.

By default, if the wake-up call is not ansvered, the station will stop ringing after 2 min.
It will call again up to 5 times, with 5 min between each call.

To delete a previous wake-up time:

If you want to join the conference:


- Press the M-key.
The red LED at the station lits to indicate that the microphone is active.
Only one person can speak at the time.
If you try to press M-key while someone else is speaking you will not be able to talk into the
conference (no LED is lit).

NOTE. When listening to the conference, your station is free to receive and make ordinary
calls. The conference is cut off during ordinary calls and activation of other features.

Leaving the conference:


- dial 820 - the directory number for conference off

2.12. Remote Set-up of Conference

It is possible to remotely set up a conference with individual stations or include a group of


stations in a conference. The members can be prevented from withdrawing - the initiator has
full control of the conference.

To set up a conference remotely to another station:


dial 74
+ the subscriber number
+ the conference number.

To set up to a conference to a group of subscribers:


dial 75,
+ the group number
+ the conference number.

From any station you can search for someone by making a Group Call.
Each group has its own directory number. Default group numbers are:
Group 1 - 5: 84 - 88 (group 1 is the general call)
Group 5 - 15: 890 - 899

* dial the group numbe r or press corresponding direct access key if programmed.
* wait for the chime signal
* press M while speaking.
* if you want an answer, wait. If not, press C

The answer time is one minute by default.

3.4. Search List


Each station can have a preprogrammed search list. The list
can include an ordinary directory number, a group call
number or a message to a pocket pager.
If you call a station that has search list and you want to 1

If the station you call has no search list or if you have come
to the end of the list, pressing 9 has no effect.

The search list feature is preprogrammed by Vingtor. If this feature is not preprogrammed for
your station and you want to implement a search list, contact Vingtor Marine alternative the
Vingtor supervison onboard.

3.5. Automatic Search


The system can be set up so that the search list is automatically activated when you get an
absence message or after time-out for ringing tone.
The station is preprogrammed by Vingtor according to installation programming plan. If this
feature is not preprogrammed, please contact Vingtor Marine alternative the Vingtor
supervison onboard, to have the feature implemented for your station

4. Particular Functions for Selected Stations

4.1. Priority Calls


The system has two ways of assigning priority features.
1. Each station is assigned a priority level (4 levels). Calls will behave differently according to
the priority setting of the calling station.
2. There are a number of Priority features that are included in the feature list and can be
assigned to stations by Class of Service (please consult the tecnical manual - Access
Restrictions ).

4.3. Priority Features

These features are assigned to a station by using the Class of Service programming. By default
no station has Access to these features.

PRIVACY Override
- Press the M-key or dial 59 to break through to a station with Privacy

Busy Notify
When the station you call is busy:
- Press the M-key or dial 57 to send an attention tone to the busy station.
(A display station at the other end will show who is trying to call.)

Busy Override
- Press the M-key twice (quickly) or dialing 58 to disconnects an ongoing conversation and
puts you through.

4.5. Loudhailing and Public Address (PA)

The AlphaCom system can be configured to distribute messages, group calls and audio
programs via the integrated Public Address System.
Additional amplifiers (separate and/or built-in) and speakers are needed for such a
configuration.

To talk into the PA system:


- Dial the directory number for the one way loudhailing or PA line
- Press the M-key while speaking.
- Press C-key to disconnect.

If a PA amplifier line is included in a group you can reach it through normal group call.
In this way you can use intercom stations in combination with one or more PA amplifier lines.
- Dial the directory number for actual group
- Press the M-key while speaking.
- Press C-key to disconnect.

4.6. Alarm Signal Distribution

General and Fire alarms with top priority can be distributed through all the system stations and
PA loudspeakers. Display stations have volume override when when alarm signal given.
Alarm initiator: a potensial free closing contact, automatically or manually operated, will
activate built-in generators having different tones according to regulations.
The alarm signal will continue as long as the contact is closed.

4.7. Alarm Interruption for Emergency Messages

Specially designed PA panels with PTT button is made for both indoor and outdoor use.
(i.e. in wheelhouse console and lifeboat stations)

- Press the PTT button when giving the the message


- Release the PTT button and the alarm continues automatically.

At your station
- Dial the pocket pager directory number
- Dial 44 to send a text message to the pocket pager showing your station number
- Press the C-key
The paged person must go to the nearest station to dial your station number.

Direct paging with answer option:


At your station
- Dial the pocket pager directory number
- Dial 45 to activate the pocket pager
- wait for an answer (default waiting time = 30 sec.)

Direct paging to a group of pocket pagers without answer option:


At your station
- Dial the pocket pager group directory number
- Dial 44 to send a text message to the group of pocket pagers, showing your station number
- Press the C-key
Anyone in the paged group can go to the nearest station and dial your station number.

Or
Direct paging to a group of pocket pagers with answer option:
At your station
- Dial the pocket pager group directory number
- Dial 45 to activate the group of pocket pagers
- wait for an answer (default waiting time = 30 sec.)

5.2. External Telephone Calls via SATCOM, Shoreline or Cellular Systems
by use of the PNCI Interface
On-board the vessel.

Calling out:
- Dial the actual system line number (interface prefix)
- Wait for dialing tone
- Dial necessary codes plus wanted telephone number
- End conversation by pressing the C-key or replace the handset.

Note!
For the VMP-606 and VMP-619 stations the 2 upper Direct Access keys are labeled with # and
* and act accordingly when needed for an outgoing call.

Other stations needing the # or * , these functions can be simulated by pressing:


M-key and digit 1 simultanously for the # function
M-key and digit 0 simultanously for the * function

Incoming calls:
- will always come through in Privacy mode
- Press the M-key or lift the handset to accept the call.
- End conversation by pressing the C-key or replace the handset.

Calling from an external telephone to an internal station:


The PNCI telephone interface is set up to allow either direct calls to one specific station
onboard or two-step call to the internal station you choose.

- Dial the telephone number to the ship


If you are not put through to a specific station directly, wait for three short tones
- Wait for new dialling tone
- Dial internal ACM number

The caller can use ordinary ACM features during the conversation
The telephone * and # keys can be used for the following purposes:
- Press * for the M-key function on (0.5 second)
- Press # for the M-key function off
- Press ## quickly to disconnect the current internal station. The telephone line is not
disconnected and you can dial another internal number within 25 second
- End conversation by replacing the handset.

If two-step dialing is used by default telephone callers have access to intercom features like
group- and general calls.

5.3. Manual Interface to SATCOM, Shoreline, Cellular or Radio Systems
by use of the VMP-121-2 Manual Interface Unit
The manual interface unit VMP-121-2 has no dialing facilities. Dialing out of the vessel or
receiving an external call must be done by use of a standard telephone set (not an ACM system
station)
To cover the internal communication the manual interface unit must always operate together
with an ordinary ACM system station acting as a switch-board, transfering the call to wanted
subscriber number. This switch-board station will be occupied during the conversation

Calling out

The caller:
- Dial the interface prefix = ACM switch-board station
- Ask the operator to set up the external call
- Wait on the line or cancel by pressing the C-key

The operator:
- Set up the external call by use of the standard telephone set for SATCOM, shoreline,
Cellular systems or via the radio system.
- After the connection is established, the operator:
- Turns the interface selector to actual communication system
- If the caller is not waiting on the line:
Dial the callers internal number on the switch-board station
- Press the interface ON button
- A red lamp on the interface indicates - communication ON

The caller:
- Use the handset for private conversation
- or Press the M-key for loudspeaking conversation
- End the conversation by pressing the C-key or replacing the handset

Incoming calls
are received by the operator on an ordinary telephone set (not an ACM system station).
The ACM system station connected to the interface unit operates as a switch-board.
- Use the same procedure as described above

6. Display Information
NOTE:
The displays shown in the drawings are examples. What is actually shown may be different.
The AlphaCom System is very flexible allowing display texts to be reconfigured to suit each
application .

6.1. Information Service


A station display has 2 lines of 16 characters each. When the Display Station is not in use (idle
display) the following is typically displayed:
On the upper line: the date, year and time 14/07-1996 10:35
On the lower line: your station number and name 299 Sand T.O.

As you dial, the digits are shown in the display, for 14/07-1996 10:35
example: Dial Number: 18

When you are connected the display shows:


- the directory number and the name of the person 299 Sand T.O.
you are connected with are shown on the first line 9 = Search
in the display.

6.2. Alarms

An alarm activates a text message to a pre-defined Technical Alarm


station or to pagers. An attention tone is heard at the Eng.room 1
station.

6.3. Subscriber Directory

6.5. Trouble shooting


Symptom:
Red LED (microphone on indication) still is flashing and a bib-bib tone is heard in your telephone
(repeating),
* From own station dial 70 and continue dialing 0 until the station is canceling
Complete restore of program back-up:
* Dial 7819 + M from super-user (super-user is the telephone that has the first physical number in
the system)

7. Parallel connected stations with same extension number

Two main stations, both with Privacy


Incoming calls will give a ringing tone in both stations simultanously
Accepting the call at the last used station:
* press the M-key for loudspeaking mode
* or lift the handset for lowspeaking mode.
Accepting the call at the other station:
* press digit 0 for loudspeaking mode, for VMP-430/-606/-619 press any Direct Access
Key, except
info/name
* lift handset for lowspeaking mode.

Two main stations, both without Privacy


Incoming calls will automatically be received by the last used station after a short calling
tone in both stations.
Switching between the two stations:
* press digit 0 once
No private conversation (always)

Calling out with or without Privacy


* press digit 0 followed by C-key to ensure your station being in command
* dial wanted number
