School History:
Webster Groves High School began as a general course offered to statesmen
ninth graders in 1889.
At the turn of the century, the school occupied the first floor of the preschool open
original Bristol School building; the elementary school took up the
second floor. As enrollment increased, the high school used hallways at high school
and storerooms as supplementary classrooms. The Statesmen Preschool at Webster Groves High School is open

The high school was named in the state’s “Top 10 List” in 2005 for
most improved schools, in second place for improvement in tenth grade
mathematics scores. From 2000-2004, the number of students scoring
in the proficient or advanced categories of the MAP increased by 20.8
percent. In 2006, the state ranked WGHS among the top 10 in the state
for 10th grade math scores.
