REFLECTION ON MINOR PROJECT

On 24th March 2017, we, the students of PEC 100 had to present our minor project in front
of the class. Our lecturer for this subject is Madam Habibah binti Mohd Nor and she will assess
our project and presentation. We have to present the types of games we created by using wood.
Since our group consists of six members including myself, we have six games to present to the
class. The games we created are different from each other and the games are maze, pick up
sticks, mix and match box, puzzle, snake and ladder and shoot and score. The game which I
created was pick up sticks which was done using satay sticks and I did those sticks in one day.
The items that we used to create games were all recycled item.

One week before the presentation, we discussed on what games we want to create based
on wood. It was difficult for us to decide on that because we realize there are many thing to do
such as cutting the wood, softening the surface of the wood, making holes on the wood and so
on. At some point, we felt like we are carpenters and it was fun finding out what we can do with
the woods and what type of games we can create with it. It was challenging experience as well.
We took two days to decide and informed each other on what we are doing so that it would not
be similar idea with others.

The reason I chose to do pick up sticks game because it is a fun game which everyone
enjoys to play. It is quite a well-known game not only for children but also for adults. The game
tends to be famous for challenging the players concentration level and thinking skills which is
critical and creative thinking. Players need to concentrate properly to avoid moving other sticks
while picking up the targeted stick. Critical and creative thinking involved when the player needs
to plan strategically to decide which stick should they pick to pick up the stick successfully. By
playing this game, the player can develop all those skills while having fun playing it.

We started presenting our project to the class and lecturer after few groups have
presented. Barathi started with her presentation on her game first which is Maze game. Once she
was done presenting her game, it was my turn to present my game. I presented my game which
is pick-up stick and I explained how I did the sticks and coloured them. There was one stick which
I carved a sharp edge on the black stick using sandpaper and it has its own purpose of being like
that. I was also demonstrated on how to play it and explained the use of black stick and how it
helps the players to pick up the stick carefully.
Apart from that, the game has penalties as well which is performing squats, jumping jacks,
or any form of exercise. This is because I want to promote health awareness to everyone who
plays my game. Besides that, I also explained the benefits of playing this game in terms of
psychologically. In western countries, this game is used as a tool to reduce anger and stress. It
can be seen on YouTube where this game used as anger management and it does affect them
positively. After I finished presenting, Nisha and my other group members took their turns to
present their games.

In conclusion, I have learnt that we can not only create basic simple things using recycled
items but we can also create games out of recycled items. I did not think of that before this as I
was only thinking recycled items can be used to create things that we use every day and for
decoration ideas. Besides that, I have also learnt how to create game using wood all by myself.
It is a new thing for me as I have never done such thing before and I am proud of myself for being
able to create game using wooden stick which is satay sticks. I also thought that we can create
so many types of games by using recycled items than spending money on buying things which
we can create it by ourselves.
