Multivariable model predictive control (MMPC), a kind of advanced Implementing Company Yokogawa Electric Corporation
optimization control at oil refinery plants, is added on existing DCS (JAPAN)
(Distributed Control System) and realizes the automatic operation control Project Site PT. Pertamina, Balikpapan Refinery (Kalimantan)
for the optimum production in terms of energy efficiency, and keeps the
production in the optimum range. Counterpart Ministry Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources
This project aims for introduction of Advanced Process Control (APC) Expected Fuel reduction 47 TJ/Y
system equipped with MMPC proven at Japans and global oil majors;
Targeted GHG Emission 3,400t-CO2/Y
customization to meet local environment; verification of effectiveness of
Reduction (quantity of limited part of the plant facilities)
the function and sustainable CO2 emission reduction by fossil fuel
reduction.

(minimum energy and CO2 emission) No process modification to the existing system is required in this
introduction.
APC can be installed during the process operation.
APC will enhance the return on investment. Most of Japanese oil
refineries have adopted it.
