Therewereanumberofinnovationsintermsofequipmentandoperationintherearseat
entertainmentsystemfortheF01/F02.2differentequipmentspecificationswereavailable:
TheRearSeatEntertainment(SA6FG)andtheRearSeatEntertainmentProfessional(SA6FH).
Twofoldingdisplayswitharesolutionof800x480pixelsandascreensizeof8(SA6FG)or
9.2(SA6FH)withintegratedinfraredtransmitterunitforwirelessheadphoneswereusedin
aBMWvehicleforthefirsttime.
Theinfraredtransmitterunitfortheheadphoneswasreplacedby2radiointerfacesforconnection

of2wirelessheadphones(KLEER standard)withtheF01/F02LCIinJuly2012.
Thesystemiscontrolledbyaradioremotecontrolor,inthecaseoftheHighsystem,viatherear-
compartmentcontrollerFCON.
RSEcontrolunitswereintegratedintheMOSTbusforbothsystems.
InnovationsfortheF01/F02includedthefollowing:
Independentoperationofdriver'sandpassenger'ssideswithrearseatentertainmentsystem.
Navigationin2Dand3Dwithnavigationtransferofdestinationinputtothedriver.
Routeguidancestartedafteracceptanceofthesuggestionbythedriver.
BMWOnlineandBMWInternetimplementedasoptionalequipmentintheRSEsystem.
UseoftheGracenotedatabasewithdatafromtheHeadUnitHigh.
USBinterfaceinthecontrolunitoftheRSEsystemavailableforcustomerusewithaudioand
videoplaybackfromUSBstick.
Azoningconcepthasbeenimplementedsince07/2012.Theconceptprovidesaclear
structureformediaoperationinthevehicle.Therearesourceswhichcanbeaccessedonly
atthefrontintheheadunit,sourceswhichcanbeaccessedonlyintherearintheRSEand
sourcesthatcanaccessedbybothoperatingunits(commonmediaserver,broadcast,etc.).

SeatEntertainment(SA6FR).

Thisoptionalequipmentpackageincludes2angle-adjustable10"rearcompartmentdisplayswhich
canbeoperatedindependentlyofeachother.TheRSEpackagealsocontainsforthefirsttimeaTouch

CommandtabletforoperationofthesystemandaBlu-Ray driveintheRSEcontrolunit.
Manyotherdetailssuchasconnectiontothevehicleelectricalsystemaswellasthecomponentsand
interfacesoftheRSEsystemaredescribedinChapter2.

Theaudiocontrolfortherearpassengercompartment(SA6FK)isplannedasasimpleaudio
remotecontrolfortherearpassengercompartmentwhichcontrolstheheadunitinthefront
ofthevehicle.Itisintendedforanumberofspecificcountriesifthecustomertheredoesnot
wantarearseatentertainmentsystem.However,sincetheradiostandardisnotcompatible
withthenewRDCi,thisoptionalequipmentwillbeofferedonlyformarketswhereRDCiis
notavailable.Thisisbecausethesystemscouldinterferewitheachother.Ithadnotyetbeen
decidedontheeditorialclosingdatewhetherthisoptionalequipmentwillalreadybeavailable
forthelaunchoftheG12.
WhenacustomerorderstheBMWTouchCommandTablet(SA6U9)(aspartoftheZLU-
LuxuryRearSeatingPackage),hereceivesatabletwith7displaywithseparateholderand
chargingfunction(snap-inadapter)inthecenterarmrestoftheG12.TheTouchCommand
isalsousedforoperationoftheheadunitatthefrontandforremotecontroloftherearseat

entertainmentsystemviatheheadunit(Wi-Fi Direct)connection.
TheoptionalequipmentRearSeatEntertainment(SA6FR)comprisestherearseat
entertainmentsystemwithtwo10displayscreens,RSEcontrolunitandalreadyincludesthe
optionalequipment7TouchCommandTablet(SA6U9).
TheRearExecutiveLoungeSeatingPackage(ZRE)isacompletepackage(available
onlyonthe750iG12)andincludesRearExecutiveLoungeSeating(SA7GZ).Italso
includesboththeoptionalequipmentElectricRecliningSeatandFootrest(SA4F4)
aswellastheExecutiveLoungeRearCenterConsole(SA4F5).Theabove-mentioned

3.3.1.Wi-FiHotspot
Wi-FiHotspot
TheWi-FiHotspot(SA6WD)isincluded(asa100%option)onUSmarketvehicles.Itisusedby
customeraccesstotheinternet(worldwideweb)fromtheirphonewhileinthevehicle.The
term"Wi-Fi"iscommonlyusedinsteadofWLAN.ThatiswhythetermWi-Fiwiththecorresponding
logoisoftenusedincombinationwiththeWLANhotspot.

Thehotspotisamulti-pointconnectionsimilartoahomenetwork.Thehotspotperformsthetask
ofa"hub",asfamiliarfromnetworktechnology.Thecustomercanconnectupto10devicestothe
hotspot(hub)andsurfontheinternetwithamaximumdownloadspeedofupto100Mbit/s.A"Client
toClient"connectionisnotpossible.Inotherwords,thedevicescannotcommunicatewitheachother.
Innetworkterms,thismeansthatthe"hub"doesnothavea"bridge"function.
Thehotspotfunctioncanbeusedbythecustomerincombinationwithanexistingoradditionalmobile
dataplan.Thehardwareinthevehicleforthehotspotiscoupledtotheoptionalequipmentwireless
charging(SA6NW)whichincludesconvenienttelephone(SA6NS).
Thehotspotfunctioncanbeusedbythecustomerincombinationwithanexistingoradditionalcell
dataplan.ThecustomermustindependentlyextendthedataplanwiththeproviderintheEurope
andUSversions.Theprocedureissimilartothatforbookinghotspotaccessinahotelorapublic
hotspotinacaf.Afterthedataconnectionissetupbetweentheenddevice(smartphone,tabletPC,
etc.)andthehotspot,aproviderpagewillbedisplayedwherethecustomercanindependentlyextend
thedatacontract.
Ifthebookingissuccessful,aconnectionwillbesetuptothefree,unfilteredinternetviatheMIMO-
LTEdataconnectionintheTCB2.TEL1andTEL2intheroofantenna/rooffinaredefinedastelematic

4.TouchCommandUpdate
4.1.Background
TheTouchCommandTabletisdownwardlycompatibleandcanthereforecommunicatewithall
vehicleelectricalsystemversionsandintegrationlevelsthatsupportaTouchCommand.This
communicationbasisislost,however,ifthevehicleelectricalsystemisprogrammedtoahigher
integrationlevelbytheBMWprogrammingsystem.TheTouchCommandTabletmustthenalsobe
programmed.Itisupdatedviaaspecialprogram,theTouchCommandServiceUpdater(TCSU).
ThisisdistributedtothesharedstorageoftheBMWserviceworkshopviaanonlineupdate.Acurrent

driverprogramforAndroid tabletsfromSAMSUNG ismadeavailabletogetherwiththeTSCU.
Amongotherthings,thecachednavigationmapdataisalsostoredonthissharedstorage,asmall,
autonomousNASserver.ProgrammingviatheBMWprogrammingsystem(ISTA/PorISTANext)isnot
planned.
4.2.Updateprocess
TheTouchCommandtabletisswitchedtodownloadmodebymeansofakeycombinationdescribed
intheTCSUmanual.TheTouchCommandisthenconnectedwiththePCorlaptoponwhich
TCSU.exeislocated.InthenextstepTCSU.exeislaunchedonthelaptop.TheupdateprogramTouch
CommandServiceUpdaterrunsseparatelyhereasTCSU.exewithoutinstallingitselfintheoperating
systemwhenexecuted.
Ifthetabletisnotshownasadded,thismaybeduetotoomanyappsbeingactive.Pleasecloseall
appsontheTouchCommandandrestarttheprocess.ThesameappliestotheWindowsPCiftoo
