Energy Efficiency Regulations

Technical Requirements

Regulated name
Motor

Regulatory definition
a machine that converts electrical power into rotational mechanical power, including any of those machines that is
incorporated into another product - whether or not that other product is an energy-using product and that

is rated for continuous duty operation

is a design type that is :
an electric three-phase induction design,
a cage or squirrel-cage design, and
a NEMA design A, B or C with NEMA T or U frame dimensions, or IEC design N or H;
is designed to operate at a single speed
has a nominal output power of not less than 0.746 kW (1 HP) and not more than 375 kW (500 HP),
has a nominal voltage of not more than 600 V AC
has a nominal frequency of 50/60 Hz or 60 Hz
has a two, four, six or eight pole construction
has an IP code from 00 to 66
is of open or enclosed construction
is of foot-mounted construction or flange-mounted construction, and
has a standard shaft, R-shaft or S-shaft, or is a close-coupled pump motor or a vertically-mounted solid shaft normal
thrust motor;

but does not include

a NEMA design A or C motor with an output power of more than 150 kW (200 HP) or
an IEC design H motor with an output power of more than 150 kW (200 HP).

Note that this includes explosion proof motors, motors in integral gear assemblies and IEC motors with a frame number of at
least 90.

Energy efficiency standard

More stringent energy efficiency level

Regulated motors that meet all of the criteria below are subject to the more stringent energy efficiency levels in the table
below:

have an output power of not less than 0.746 kW (1 HP) and not more than 150 kW (200 HP),
have two, four or six poles
are NEMA T frame or IEC frame number of 90 or above
are NEMA design A or B or IEC design N
have a standard shaft, R-shaft or S-shaft and IEC equivalent
have foot-mounting or C-face mounting with feet or detachable feet or D-flange mounting with feet or detachable
feet

but are not

integral gear assembly motors or

fire pump duty motors.
Minimum nominal efficiency standard at 100% of nominal full load
(Premium - most stringent level)
