Seed requirements: +/-100 kg/ha. Spacing: Directly sown - Rows 60-90 cm and 12-20 cm within rows. Leguminous plant. Inoculate seed at planting.
Sowing Time: Bush beans- Jan-March & Aug-Oct; Runner beans -Jan-March & Aug-Oct; Sugar beans - Dec-March.
Plant density (Population): Bush beans -100 000-300 000 plants/ha; Pole beans - 20 000-35 000 plants/ha.
Soil pH: 5.8 - 6.3 optimum. Lime 3 weeks before planting (Dolomitic lime). Sensitive to magnesium deciencies and salinity conditions.
Boron: DO NOT APPLY TO BEANS.
Harvest periods: Bush beans - 40-60 days; Pole beans - 50-70 days after planting.
Yield target: 3.8 - 8.5 t/ha (sandy loam soils, friable and free from nematodes preferred).
