FMMS 6th Grade Science Information

Dear 6th Grade Science Parents,

Welcome to 6th grade science! We are excited about this year. Below is some general
information that you need to be aware of for your student to be successful in science this
year. We will be using the Discovery Education Techbook, which your student will also have
access to from home. Please familiarize yourself with the following information so that we can
work together for a successful year.

REQUIRED MATERIALS
4 Marble Composition Notebooks (1 per unit)
Agenda
Ruler
Scotch Tape
Index Cards
Ear Buds (highly suggested for station work)
Sharpened #2 pencil

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Be on-time.
Follow ALL directions for safety.
Be recognized before speaking.
Respect others.
Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
Make today countbe a yellow jacket!

TECHNOLOGY & LAB SAFETY EXPECTATIONS


The Discovery Techbook is our middle school science textbook in the district. The students will
work on Chromebooks throughout the year to access its resources. Internet access privileges,
usage rules, and procedures will be followed as outlined in the student handbook (pgs. 9, 10, 21
especially). Teachers reserve the right to take away technology and lab privileges to maintain
a safe and positive learning environment for all students.

Tests will be given upon completion of a science unit. Grades will be calculated by the
following:

Classwork & Quizzes = 40%


Unit Tests % Projects= 35%
Homework Assignments = 15%
9 Weeks Tests= 10%

GRADING SCALE
A 100-90
B 89-80
C 79-70
D 69-60
F 59 0

HOMEWORK & CLASSWORK


Assignments, quizzes, and test dates will be posted on the teachers webpage. Homework
assignments may be graded for completion or accuracy. Any homework assignments not
completed will count as a 0. Late homework will be addressed at teachers discretion. Other
assignments may be assigned and graded as needed (ex: note cards, worksheets, reading,
study guides, review packets, etc).
