Lubricate the piston and piston rings with engine oil.

Make sure the piston ring gaps are evenly staggered round the piston.

Place piston ring compressor 9996961 on the cylinder block and fit the piston and connecting rod with the arrow and
Front marking facing forwards.

Note: When tool 9996961 is used, locking tools 9996966 must be temporarily removed.
When the piston is in position, locking tools 9996966 should be re-fitted on the liner.

Clean and lubricate the big-end bearing journal and bearing shells with oil. Check that the bearing shells are fitted in
the connecting rod and bearing cap. Fit the caps according to the markings and torque-tighten according to the
specifications.

Fit a new seal on the piston cooling jet and torque-tighten the jet nut according to the specifications.

Remove the cranking tool and fit the inspection cover on the flywheel casing.
