Outofabout98million,totalintrastateandinterstatemigrantsinthecountryduringlastdecade,61millionhavemovedtoruralareasand36milliontourban
areas.Migrationstreamoutofruralareas(73million)toanotherruralareaswasquitehigh(53million)incomparisontofrom rural to urban areas (20 million)
About6millionmigrantswenttoruralareasfromurbanareas.Onthebasisofnetmigrantsbylastresidenceduringthepastdecade,i.e.,thedifferencebetween
inmigrationandoutmigration,ineachstate,Maharastrastandsatthetopofthelistwith2.3millionnetmigrants,followedbyDelhi(1.7million),Gujrat(0.68
million)andHaryana(0.67million)aspercensus.UttarPradesh(2.6million)andBihar(1.7million)werethetwostateswithlargestnumberofnetmigrants
