July 2010

Dear Sir/Madam,

Across the globe and here in Indonesia, foobtall has become a powerful way to
change people’s lives, especially people facing critical problems like homelessness,
drug addiction, or HIV-AIDS.
The Homeless World Cup is an annual, international football tournament, uniting
teams of people who are homeless and excluded to take a once in a lifetime
opportunity to represent their country and change their lives forever. However in the
history of HWC, Indonesia has never been invited to send a team!
Rumah Cemara, an Indonesian community-based organization for drug-users and
people living with HIV-AIDS in West Java, has just made history. In early February,
2010, Rumah Cemara was selected by the Homeless World Cup to select a team to
represent Indonesia at the 2010 HWC Tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Rumah Cemara requests your support in ensuring Indonesia is represented at this
prestigious international sporting competition. A detailed sponsorship offer is
included within this full proposal.
The discpline, teamwork, focus, and strength required to play a good match can give
people in difficult circumstances the confidence to turn their lives from negative to
positive, from hurting themselve to helping others. We hope that you will support us
in this endeavor, not only to change the lives of our players, but moreso to proudly
represent our nation, Indonesia, at such a meaningful and prestigious international
competition.

Sincerely,

HOMELESS WORLD CUP 2010

Until this day, there are over 1 billion homeless people in our
world. The Homeless World Cup (HWC) is held in order to
solve societal problems related to homelessness, like drug
use, HIV-AIDS, poverty, and lack of education.
The Homeless World Cup is an annual, international football
tournament, uniting more than 300,000 homeless and
socially marginalized people with a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity to represent their country and change their life.

The HWC 2010 will take place in Septemeber in Rio di

Janeiro, Brazil, with 64 national teams participating in the
tournament. This year is the first opporunity for Indonesia to
participate, since the first tournament in 2003.

Homeless World Cup is supported by UEFA, Nike, the

United Nations, Manchester United, Real Madrid,
Ambassador Eric Cantona international footballers like
Didier Drogba and Rio Ferdinand.

FOOTBALL AS A SOCIAL SOLUTION

West Java is the province in Indonesia with the highest

number of HIV-AIDS cases. The reported number at
around 4,900 people living with HIV-AIDS, even though
the provincial estimate is approximately 130,000 people
already living with HIV.

Living with HIV-AIDS is not only a medical problem, as

the AIDS epidemic also results in psychological,
mental, and social troubles. Many people living with
HIV-AIDS, from diverse backgrounds, lose their jobs
due to discrimination, and are then considered the trash of the community for being
infected and unproductive. They do not have the same work opportunities offered to
other people, are rejected from accesss to health services and even exiled by their
families; thus many people living with HIV become homeless.

Football is a universal language that can unite us in sharing our differences, and it is
one creative method used by Rumah Cemara to tackle HIV-AIDS. Playing regular
games that involve both people already living with HIV, and people who are not,
decreases the stigma and discrimination in the community towards people living with
HIV and has become an effective way to increase the quality of life of our players
who are living with HIV.
RUMAH CEMARA
Rumah Cemara is a community-based
organization founded in 2003, as a safe and
comfortable community for people who use drugs
and people living with HIV to increase their quality
of life. Presently, Rumah Cemara is the largest
support network in West Java for people living with
HIV and already supports more than 5,200 people
from diverse backgrounds, from drug users to
housewifes, from children to sex workers, to gay
and waria communities.

Football has become one programatic tool at

Rumah Cemara, for decreasing stigma and
discrimination in the community, by playing games
with people from the general public. Additionally,
Rumah Cemara plays routinely with teams of
prisonersin corectional instituations, and this is an
effective way to increase their sense of self worth
and spread valuable health information.

Rumah Cemara runs a team of players from within

our community. When we began, team practices
and games were activities meant to simply
maintain the physical, mental and family status of
our players. However, over time our players have
developed talents and capabilities, and now we
have begun to move our team in a more structured
direction.

Since 2007, Rumah Cemara’s football team,

named “RC Interminal Football Club” has
participated in the annual National Narcotics
Board tournament, involving drug users from
rehabilitation centers across Indonesia. This
tournament is held at the national level with on
average 14 teams participating from different cities
across Indonesia. In 2009, as a result of our hard
work bearing fruit, Rumah Cemara won the
National Cup.
GOALS

On February 5, 2010, Rumah Cemara received an official invitation letter (attached

at the end of this proposal) from Mel Young, founder and President of the Homeless
World Cup, to organize the Indonesian Team for the Homeless World Cup 2010.
Rumah Cemara, as National Organizer for Team Indonesia, has already selected the
required eight players to compete in the HWC during the month of February 2010.
These eight participants are people coming from marginalized groups, and their
backgrounds match with the HWC criteria.

The goal of this proposal is to request sponsorship from your

Company/Institute/Organization so that the Republic of Indonesia may particpate in
the 2010 Homeless World Cup. We aim to use this opportunity to empower groups
of marginalized people, promote your Company/Institution/Organization, and raise
up the image of Indonesia in the eyes of the world.
