Summary:
Additionally, development along each vector is influenced by learning experiences and interactions with
others. [...]students' personal progress and growth in these areas are determined by a number of
factors, including the strengths and weaknesses of their personal characteristics, the commitment of
faculty members, the curriculum of their courses, and the nature of the support within the community
at their institution. [...]it is important to provide opportunities and structures that allow faculty,
students, and staff to make decisions that can positively facilitate student development along the seven
vectors (Chickering & Reisser, 1993) or some other developmental framework. [...]in choosing a book,
placing emphasis on the book's themes, and/or assuring content is aligned with the student growth
provides a strategy for selection that is more likely to result in the selection of a book that will
engage students in reflection and growth.

Critique:

Faculty are the primary providers of knowledge in academic institutions; hence they are entitled to
question the quality and quantity of library collections. However, faculty tend to be more critical,
particularly in the area of collection development, because it directly impacts on what they need for
teaching and research. In all respects, faculty input is essential and crucial since library materials are
built upon what students need to learn, adapt, and expand. In order to facilitate faculty demands, a
productive and collaborative relationship must be established between faculty and librarians. Scudder
and Scudder (1991).
Faculty has a big help and play a vital role when it comes in selecting books, we librarians need to
collaborate to the faculty because they are more knowledgeable and expert of their subjects that they
are teaching so in order to have good quality of book we need to collaborate to the faculty in order to
avoid wasting of money and effort and to assure that the book you are selecting is useful and need of
your clienteles.
According to (Twiton). Thoughtful consideration of the variety of goals, criteria, and levels of investment
associated with common reads is necessary to assure the choice of the right book.
Selecting of book has a lot of criteria to be considered example of those are the scope, accuracy,
treatment, and the special feature of the book this criteria would help us to select good quality of book
that would help student get information effectively.
