upper right-hand corner .
Note: Aspen SCM V8.4 supports the new user interface, associated
workflows, and a variety of functional enhancements that are not available to
applications created in V7.3 or prior releases.
Before you begin the migration process from V7.3 or prior versions, refer to
the Aspen SCM and Aspen SCM Applications Upgrade/Migration Guide
and the User Interface Configuration Reference Manual from the
AspenTech Support Center at http://support.aspentech.com.
Note: When you operate SCM in a Windows Server 2003 environment, access
to the online Help in SCM Applications is determined by the security
permission level of the first person to open that Help.
8 1 Introduction
If a user with a low-level security permission (for example, User) open an
SCM Application's Help first, then all users with a security permission at the
same level or higher will then be able to open that Help successfully. In other
words, nearly all users should then be able to open Help.
To correct this, a user in the Admin group (that is, a user with Admin-level
security permission) can log into SCM and modify the security setting of
WebHelp.bat to grant full control to users with the lower-level security
permissions (such as User). Those users will then be able to open the Help in
that SCM Application.
Note: Aspen SCM V8.4 includes major updates to support the new user
interface, associated workflows, and a variety of functional enhancements
that are not available to applications created in V7.3 or prior releases.
Before you begin the migration process from V7.3 or prior versions, refer to
the Aspen SCM and Aspen SCM Applications Upgrade/Migration Guide for V8.4
from the AspenTech Support Center at http://support.aspentech.com.
1 Introduction 9
2 Before You Get Started
Note: All the above products support both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions.
The 64-bit installation includes new utility which can convert existing 32-bit
SCM applications to 64-bit SCM applications. Aspen SCM 64-bit is required in
order to run 64-bit applications.
Note: For instructions on the upgrade and migration processes, see the
Aspen SCM V8.4 Upgrade Migration Guide.
User Requirements
To install Aspen SCM, you must have administrative privileges on the
computer on which you are installing the software.
Note: The requirements for physical memory and hard disk space depend on
the size and complexity of the Aspen SCM Applications you are running.
Aspentech recommends that you adhere to the hardware specifications
provided in this section for your production systems. For assistance, contact
AspenTech technical support.
Specification Requirements
Operating System Windows 2008 Server (R2 SP1) x64; Windows Server 2012 x64
CPU Dual 3.6 GHz Xeon Processor, equivalent or better, 2MB L3 Cache ,
800MHz FSB or higher
Network Interface Corporate Standard
System Memory *16GB DDR SDRAM or higher
Hard Disk 3 x 36 GB, 10K RPM, SCSI or higher
Notes:
* Windows XP is no longer supported.
* For very large Aspen Supply Chain Planner models, required System
Memory may be significantly larger, up to a maximum of 16 GB for some
applications. Memory and CPU should also be increased to reflect expected
number of simultaneous users to avoid performance degradation. A 64-bit
operating system (for example, Windows 2008 x64 Server) with installed 64-
bit Aspen SCM should be used to allow process to allocate more memory.
Specification Requirements
Operating System Windows 7 (SP1); Windows 7 (SP1) x64; Windows 8 x64
Note: If you are running Aspen SCM V8.4 on the client PC and not on a
server, use the CPU specification for the Server and use 4 GB RAM or higher.
Note: The Software License Manager Server is required to install and run any
Aspen product. Refer to the Software License Manager (SLM) Installation and
Reference Guide for additional details on license manager installation,
configuration, and maintenance.
64-bit Aspen SCM requires corresponding to the Relational DB 64-bit ODBC
drivers for the DB access. That is possible to configure ODBC sources on 64-
bit Windows operation system for 32 and 64 bit applications.
Note:
According to Microsoft: To manage a data source that connects to a 32-bit
driver under 64-bit platform, use c:\windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe.
To manage a data source that connects to a 64-bit driver, use
c:\windows\system32\odbcad32.exe.
In Administrative Tools on a 64-bit Windows operating system, there are
icons for both the 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC Data Source Administrator
dialog box.
Note: If this dialog box does not appear a few seconds after inserting a DVD,
browse to the DVD drive and start setup.exe in the DVD folder.
Carefully read the instructions on the following dialog boxes, make your
selections, and proceed with the installation.
This chapter explains how to install the current version of Aspen SCM. It
assumes that you have read and understood Chapter 2: Before You Get
Started.
Note: If this dialog box does not appear a few seconds after inserting a DVD,
browse to the DVD drive and start setup.exe in the DVD folder.
Carefully read the instructions on the following dialog boxes, make your
selections, and proceed with the installation.
Note: 32 bit and 64 bit products could be installed and used on the 64 bit
operating system. 64 bit Aspen SCM products cannot be installed on 32 bit
operating system.
Notes: With Custom Install, you can choose to install only Aspen SCM, select
Aspen SCM Applications, Web-based products, or Aspen Supply Chain
Connect.
Notes:
Once the installation of any AspenTech product to the default folder has
been completed, this folder cannot be changed and the Change Current
Destination Folder dialog box will no longer display.
Any further AspenTech installations on the computer are made to that
folder by default.
Common features are always installed in the Program files\Common
Files\AspenTech Shared folder regardless of the destination location
selected.\32-bit products will be installed in the \Program Files (x86)
folder and 64-bit products will be installed in the \Program Files folder
If the Aspen SCM applications are not being installed under the default
folders, users may need to change the path setting of library cases
specified in the SCM table $TCASES.
Notes: 32-bit and 64-bit products are using the same Licensing and Security
configuration.
Note: Aspen SCM configuration is not shared between 32-bit and 64-bit
products.
Note: The only supported method for uninstalling Aspen software is via
Start | All Programs | AspenTech | Uninstall AspenTech Software
