Instruction of Z998 SD card upgrade

Cautions

The software version and pictures in this document are just for reference only.
Please use the version that download form ZTE handset support website to upgrade SD card,
SD card upgrade supports upgrade the same version or upgrade to the higher version.
1) Before you begin:
a) Please make sure the mobile phone can be powered on normally. Otherwise it may
cause downloading failure;
b) Take out SIM card and check whether update.zip of SD card is correct,
c) Ensure the battery be sufficiency (At least 2 cells), otherwise please charge the mobile
phone until the battery be sufficiency.
2) Do not make other operations and do not take out battery by force during downloading.
3) The SD card upgrading process of Z998 will take 2-3 minutes, if the mobile phone
cannot automatically reboot after 3 minutes, please upgrade the mobile phone again. If the
mobile phone cannot be powered on, please operate with special method. If the special
method is invalid, please contact ASC.

Steps of SD card upgrade

1. Download SD card upgrade package from ZTE website, change the file name to
update.zip, then copy the update.zip file to root directory of SD card, as picture 1-1
shown below:

2. Click All applications, then enter into File Manager to check whether the files of SD
card are normal, as picture 1-2 shown below:

3. Check whether you can check the version, then click Home key to return to home screen
and subsequently click Menu key-->System settings-->About phone -->System updates
-->Storage card update , as picture 1-4, picture 1-5, Picture 1-6 and picture 1-7 shown below:

4. Click Storage card updates. The message (as picture 1-8 shown below) will prompt to
remind you to prepare your update package.

5. Click OK. The message (as picture 1-9 shown below) will prompt to remind you to
back up your user information.

NoteIf you want to back up your user information, please click return button to quit
updating.

6. Click Update now and the mobile phone will power off and start to update.
7. The mobile phone reboots again after upgrade finished, then upgrade completed!

Special Method
Situation: Sometimes, if you mobile unable to open or enter the Android OS failure, the above
method will be invalid. In this case, please use the special method below to do a software
update.

Operations:
1. Please refer to the above steps 1 and copy update.zip file into the root directory of SD
card.
2. Install SD card, and battery.
3. Press volume up key and power key to switch on. The mobile phone will enter into
Android system recovery <3e>, as picture 2-1.

4. Press volume up or down key, select apply update from external storage, press power
key to confirm.
5. Press volume up or down key, select update.zip, press power key to confirm.
6. After about 2-3 minutes, screen displays "Install from sdcard complete".
7. Press volume up or down key, select "reboot system now", and press power key to
confirm. The mobile phone will restart automatically.

Notes:
Z998 has version check function and you cant update software between different series
version.
