Introduction
Thank you for purchasing FrSky 2.4GHz radio control system. In order to fully enjoy the benefit of this system, please read
the user guide carefully and set up the device as described below.

The DHT-U developed by FrSky provides not only normal RC control but also a true telemetry function to return
measurements from the model. This new capability allows real time display of monitored data, such as altitude, battery,
current, speed, temperature, GPS, etc. DHT-U can be attached to PPM output transmitter with a module bay, and it can also
be attached to any Futaba transmitter with a square trainer port with FrSky MCT-F cable. DHT-U V2.3 can log data.

DHT-U Overview

* Firmware Upgrade Port: use FrSky FrUSB-2 to upgrade DHT-U (see Page 9 for details)
* SD-card Slot: DHT-U V2.3 provides data logger function (see Page 11 for details)

Features
Easy to bind and instant link between transmitter and receiver.
All-in-one combination of telemetry module, built-in display and alarm threshold settings.
Show in-flight data via built-in display.
Capable of setting failsafe from DHT-U module, even in flight.
Alarms on monitored conditions (e.g. low voltage, poor reception, etc.).
Firmware upgradable.
DHT-U V2.3 provides data logger feature.

Lipo Voltage/Altitude

* The voltage ratio for internal battery voltage sensor is 4:1. When FBVS-01 (FrSky Battery Voltage Sensor) is
used, the voltage ratio should be the same as that of FBVS-01.

Below are FrSky default values for A1/A2, users can
change according to their requirements:
Alarm Smaller Than Value
0 73
A1/A2
1 71

Max voltage for A1/A2 is 3.3V coresponding to value of 255.

For 3S lipo it is best to use a 4:1 divider ratio which allows reading up to 13.2V (4*3.3V). This ratio has to also
be used in the DHT-U setting.
Then, for example, if you want to set an alarm at 9.9V you should enter the value 255*9.9/13.2=191.

Below are FrSky default values for RSSI, users can

change according to their requirements:
Alarm Smaller Than Value

Alarm Larger Than Value
0 > 400

with maximum altitude alarm for 2550Ft/m)

Installation Process

1. Open the transmitter and find out the battery power supply line, GND and PPM signal line.
Or connect directly to coresponding pins after original module is removed.
2. Solder the battery power supply line, GND and PPM signal line to corresponding wires of DHT-U
(REDV+; BLACKGND; BROWNPPM).
3. Clamp DHT-U to the transmitters handle or antenna base, using provided clamp and screw or FMS (FrSky Mounting Stand).
4. Screw the supplied antenna to DHT-U.

Bind Procedure
Binding is the process of uniquely associating a particular receiver and transmitter, to exclude and potentially interfering
transmitters. A transmitter can be bound to multiple receivers (not to be used simultaneously). A receiver can only be bound
to one transmitter. This association is a key component in newer 2.4GHz radio systems and must be done before the
equipment can be used.

1. Ascertain that the transmitter is in PPM mode. Turn the transmitter off.
2. Turn the transmitter on and enter MENU page, select V8_Mode or D_Mode to work with corresponding
receiver you are using (see Compatible Receivers on Page 4). Select Bind.
3. Turn on the receiver while holding F/S button on the receiver. The RED LED on the receiver will flash, indicating
the binding process is completed.
4. Turn off both receiver and transmitter.
5. Turn the transmitter on and enter MENU page, select Normal. Re-connect battery to the receiver. The RED
SOLID LED on the receiver will indicate receiver is receiving commands from the transmitter.

After above steps are completed, both the transmitter and receiver are ready to be used. The bind procedure will not have to
be repeated unless one of the two is replaced.

Note: there might be LED status difference among different receivers, please refer to receiver manual for more details.

Failsafe Setting
In some circumstances, such as strong interference, the radio signal may be lost. By default, when the signal is lost the
receiver will keep the outputs set at the last received positions while it continues to try to search for the transmitter. Normal
operation will resume once the signal link is regained.
Failsafe is a mode that allows pre-setting of channel positions that the receiver will use, instead of the last known positions,
for such a case as losing signal.

8
It is recommended to set up failsafe when the system is first used, or if the receiver is re-bound.
Follow the steps below to set failsafe BEFORE flight:
Option-1. How to set failsafe to a user-determined state on lost signal:
1) Bind the receiver to the transmitter module first and turn on both the transmitter and the receiver;
2) Move the controls to desired failsafe position for all channels;
3) Press briefly the F/S button on the receiver and you are done.

Option-2. How to set failsafe for no pulses on lost signal:

1) Just press briefly the F/S button on the receiver while the transmitter is off and you are done.

Warning: If failsafe is not set up then by default the receiver will hold the last known positions it had before the signal
was lost. This is likely to mean some level of throttle is maintained, which could increase the risk that your model will
fly away and possibly cause greater damage or injury than if failsafe had been set to cut, or reduce, throttle at least.

Follow the steps below to set failsafe DURING flight:

1. Bind the receiver first and turn on both transmitter and receiver;
2. Enter MENU page, select F/S to enter failsafe sub-page, press Button B to set failsafe at the desired failsafe
position DURING flight.

Range Check
A pre-flight range check should always be done before each flying session, especially with a new model. Reflections from
nearby metal fences, concrete buildings or trees can cause loss of signal both during the range check and during flight.

The following steps are to be followed to perform the range check of the model before flight:
1. Place the model at least 60cm (two feet) above non-metal contaminated ground (e.g. on a wooden bench).
2. The receivers antennas should be separated in the model and not touch the ground. Place the module antenna
in a vertical position.
2. Turn the transmitter on and enter MENU page, select R-CK, connect battery to the receiver. The effective
distance will be decreased to 1/30 of full range.
4. Walk away from the model while simultaneously operating the controls on the transmitter, confirming that all
controls operate normally to a distance of 1/30 of the full range.

V2.3 data logger firmware is available

Compared with DHT-U firmware V2.0, new firmware V2.3 has below changes

1. Below functions have been disabled in V2.3:

Capable of selecting eight data to show on the first two data screens;
V8 functions;

2, Data log function has been added in V2.3:

SD card logo will show up on the main screen after it is inserted into SD reader;
Press the top left button on DHT-U to enter setting menu for data log;
Log time (time to start data log: 1/3/5 minutes after powering up) and log step (time interval: 1/2/5 seconds) areselectable;
File format for data log:csv

11
FrSky default log time is 3min while log step is 2sec. Both are selectable.

Log time refers to logging delay of 1/3/5 minutes after powering up, and log step refers to the sample frequency
of 1/2/5 seconds.
It will continue to record data points as long as there is memory in SD card or DHT-U is not powered down.
Data will be recorded as per log time and log step as format below:
