Torque converter

It is a device used to disengage engine and automatic transmission systems in pass cars, heavy duty on-
road & off-road vehicles. Similar to function of conventional clutches but different in operation.

It has an impeller, turbine and a stator. The impeller is coupled with the transmission and the turbine
with the rear cover attached with the engine. The stator blades are used to guide the flow and synch the
rotational speed of impeller and turbine blades. An SAE 80W40 or typical transmision fluid continuously
in motion inside this arrangement.

During clutching, the the fluid flows into the impeller and gets directed centrifugally away and flows into
the turbine where it gains momentum and gets redirected through stator blades and keeps flowing back
and forth. stator part of the torque converter starts moving to keep the oil flow orientation angle in line
with speed of rotation of the impeller.

It has a very high torque multiplier ratio of upto 1.35 1.9 times of actual engine brake torque.
