In 8th grade American History students will investigate
the history of the United States and apply content
through analysis of the political, economic, geographic,
and social events and issues that shaped the nation from
the early colonial period through Reconstruction. Please
feel free to contact me with any questions you may
have. I look forward to the year ahead!

Materials
You must bring the following
items with you every day:
- Interactive Notebook (3 or 5
Subject)
- Pen or Pencil
- A positive attitude
late Work
- Late work will follow the RISD
Student Handbook Policy.
- Assignments will no longer be
accepted for credit after 3
weeks.
Grading
Grades will be weighted as follows:
50% - Major Grades (tests & projects)
50% - Minor Grades (daily work, homework, formative
assessments and group work)
Extra Credit Opportunities:
There will be one extra credit assignment opportunity
per nine weeks grading period.
Test Corrections:
Students making below a 70% on tests have the
opportunity to correct their assessments for a grade up
to a 70%.

Absent Work
-
Absent work is in the sleeve labeled While You Were Out located on the bookshelf. As a student,
YOU are responsible for collecting and completing missed assignments upon your return. I
encourage you to come to tutoring to ask questions on missed assignments and concepts.

-After an excused absence, you have the number of days absent plus one additional day to
complete your missing assignment, per the RISD student handbook.
 Classroom Norms
All school rules will apply in our classroom. Students are also asked to:
-Show respect: to your peers, your teacher, the classroom and yourself. Think Viking
P.R.I.D.E)
-Give your best effort: which requires believing in your ability to succeed, coming to and
beginning class prepared, and working diligently throughout class time.

Classroom Culture and Consequences

We will work hard to create a positive classroom culture. In instances where this culture is
disrupted, or where classroom norms are ignored, consequences will include:
1. Warning/Reminder
2. Parent/Guardian Contact
3. Lunch conference, and if applicable, a parent/guardian conference
4. Administrative Referral

Tutoring Opportunities

- By appointment. Please e-mail me or talk to me after class to set up a time!

hall passes
You will have five hall passes per 9-week period. These passes may be used to use the
restroom, go to your locker or get a drink of water. Passes must be present in order for you
to use them. Use them wisely!
