 IMC Models news
New models for TII Group.
At the Bauma trade show, IMC models announced a number of
new models for the TII group, incorporating Scheuerle, Nicolas
and Kamag. The new Scheuerle SPMT has been put to good Kamag K25 6-axle modules
effect as a transport set with Robbins TBM load, complete with with transformer load.
four 6-axle modules and twin powerpacks. Also from Scheuerle is
the split modules set, consisting of two 6-axle modules, two split
modules, powerpack and scissor attachment. The new Scheuerle
Intercombi is presented as a 6+2 with windmill blade
transportation adaptor and a plastic windmill blade in the
corporate colours while for Kamag, a set of K25 6-axle modules
with a transformer load has been released. Nooteboom is another
licensee of IMC, and they have several new models now
appearing with dealers including the 7-axle ballast trailer,
complete with load and paired with an Actros 3-axle tractor while
the 6+2 axle Multi-PX low loader trailer is paired with a 4-axle
Mercedes Benz Arocs tractor, all finished in the corporate
Nooteboom red decoration.

Manitowoc have shown prototypes of two new lattice boom crawler cranes, the
300 ton capacity Manitowoc MLC300 and the larger MLC650, both of which are
expected to be released early next year with development being undertaken by
Weiss Brothers for Towsleys.

Caterpillar 777G Rigid Haulers

NEW 1:48th scale additions.
Classic Construction Models has announced several new additions to their 1:48th scale modern Caterpillar equipment fleet,
consisting of the 777G rigid haul truck which will be available in two versions, one with rock dump body and one fitted with
a Mega water tank body. Both models are expected to appear with dealers around October/November.

Launching NEW models.

Many of the new Bauma model releases have been featured on the pages of
PMMW, so I now take a look at some of the other models announced during the
show which will be featured in future issues. In prototype form is a new 1:50th scale
Kaiser S12 multi-terrainexcavator which looks to be a fine and fully featured release
from Conrad, due for release in July while also in prototype form is a 3-axle Terex AT
3160 Challenger mobile crane which is again being developed by Conrad for a release later
in 2016. A sample of the Conrad produced Terex CC3800 painted in the Demag yellow and
blue colours was another talking point and it is believed that Conrad will release a limited
edition version of the model in the striking Demag colours later this year. WSI are working on
two versions of the Tadano ATF220G-5 5-axle mobile crane with differences to the lower cabin
design highlighting the Euro 3 and Euro 4. Soilmec has followed up on the impressive SR-100 Soilmec SC-100
with SR30 Trench
crawler crane with a new version configured as a foundation rig, carrying the SR30 trench
Cutter (1:50th).

with one also featuring the standard lifting boom head.
Caterpillar had a prototype on display of the upcoming M318F wheeled excavator which will
come with coupler and two work tools, a tilting grading bucket and a sorting grab. The model
is expected for release third quarter 2016. While not brand new, Ammann had two updated
models of the ASC110 compactor and the ARX26 tandem drum roller which feature new
graphics. One new Bomag model is the 1:50th scale BW120 AD-5 tandem drum roller while
two new models, the BW 213-5 compactor and the BW 206-5 tandem roller didnt quite make
it to Munich in time. Fans of the Hitachi line of replicas will be pleased to hear that a new
ZX350-6 tracked excavator is now in development for released towards the end of the year
with several other projects in the early stages of development.
Komatsu had a small quantity of the new PC8000 hydraulic shovel from Bymo and the
model has now entered production, with stocks for collectors expected to be available
September/October time. Another Komatsu release which should be available in the coming
months is a 1:50th scale WA470-6 wheel loader which is being produced by Universal
Hobbies. For a number of years, I have been eagerly awaiting new models from Wacker
Neuson and finally, the wait is over with the launch of several models from German
merchandising company Cyber Wear GmbH. In 1:50th scale is the TH522 telehandler and
EW100 wheeled excavator while in the larger 1:32nd scale comes the ET20 mini excavator.
A Kramer version of telehandler, designated 2205 uses the same castings with different
graphics applied. NZG has also produced a model for Wacker Neuson in the form of the RD45
tandem drum roller. One surprise from Nagel is the production of a 2 model
set comprising of the Liebherr A918 Compact and the Liebherr L546
wheel loader. What is interesting with the release is the cooperation
between Conrad and NZG to realise the model, with both
supplied in the same package.

n 2014, I reviewed the first

version of the MC96 which
came with the BC35 trench
cutter and HTS60 hose
tensioning system. Bymo
has now followed up with a new
derivative of the equipment which
still uses the MC96 as the carrier
but this time, the HDS-T system
is modelled. The model reviewed
her is one of a small number
produced for the Bauma trade
show and as such, the box
does not contain some of the
components to allow the model
to be set up as a standard lifting
crane. When the full production
begins later in the year, the
model will have the ability to be
set up as a duty crane and the
box will also include assem-
bly instructions.

It would have been easy for
Bymo just to reproduce the
MC96 using the same tooling
and yet, they have taken the
opportunity to update the model
with changes to the outside of
the track frames to incorporate
twelve access steps while the
side platforms with metal safety
railings are now a different layout
without the steps at the rear.
Another small difference is the
exhaust stack which is larger.
The undercarriage is still
extending to provide a stable
base and the side panel can be
detached to uncover the winch
holes and winders. Unfortunately,
the winches themselves are the
same as the previous version and
there is no brake on the lines, so
it is not possible to have them set
up holding any weight.

The HDS-T system allows the
digging of trenches to a depth
of 120 metres and for this, the
mud hose and hydraulic bundle
are stored on rotating drums
mounted to the upper body of
the carrier which rotate to lower
the BC35 trench cutter as it is
lowered into the trench. This
is fully functional on the model
with some rather nice hose
connection detailing at the centre
of the narrow drum which is also
hinged and pivots slightly. The
wide drum holds the length of
very flexible rubber tubing and
even here, the inside of the drum
shows where the tube connects
to the metal tube connection
where it then exits to the rear
where a control valve and pipe
holder is fixed in place. All the
hydraulic lines are pre-fitted to a
silver panel which slots in place
at the front of the housing. The
boom tip is a metal component

configuration and these are metal
with photo-etch walkways and
fix together using metal bolts.
The BC35 cutter is the same
tooling as the previous model
with the addition of an upper
bracket which holds the hydraulic
and hose lines and allows for the
entire cutter to rotate through 90
degrees. When the first version
of the model was produced, I
have to admit it was one of my
favourite foundation models but
the HDS-T version now replaces
it as my favourite of all the Bauer
models to date.

integrated into the counterweight
while surface details include the
textured cooling grill and handle.
The paint finish and printing are
to Conrads usual high standards
and the model is presented in
the foam lined inner carton
with printed outer box.

been interesting
releases, but have
had aspects that
are lacking in some of the finer
details, with some build quality
issues, and the use of plastic for
parts which would have been
better realised in metal. That
has all changed with the release
of the 6113E telescopic crawler
crane. The model has a
significant weight to it and a
solid build which is enhanced
with plenty of detail and realism.
The undercarriage features
extending track frames which
are rather plain in appearance
with all the lower roller detailing
integrated into the frame casting.
Green painting of the lifting
eyes is a nice touch, as are a nice addition, complete
the warning labels. The final with adjustable angle
drive housing shows all the bolt and second winch.

modelled, complete with lifting easy connection to the boom

with the entire cabin frame tilting
to an angle of about 20 degrees.
The rear ballast arrangement is
cast as a single block which is
not easily detachable from the
model and this is maybe the
only area of the model which I
would have personally preferred
to see more functionality.
The counterweight lifting
mechanisms have been
chains which does add to the
realism and all the safety railings
are produced from metal which
gives a big improvement over
previous releases. The main
boom can be adjusted in height
with the main cylinder very stiff,
so it can hold position when the
sections are not fully extended.
The weight in the base does
allow a fair bit of stability when
the boom is extended and the
cylinder does appear to hold,
but unlike previous releases,
there are no holes in the cylinder
where a pin can be inserted
to ensure the boom does not
lower unexpectedly.
The model is ready for work
right out of the box, with the
hook block fully rigged while the
side extension jib is a nice touch,
having an extending support for
head, just like the full sized
machine. The jib can be set to
one of three angles by extracting
the metal pins which again
shows attention to detail by Ros
in the engineering of the model.
For me, the final touch that
makes the model stand out is the
addition of a work platform. On
its own, this is no big deal but

The Bobcat S450 compact skid steer loader is a nimble machine, weighing in a little over 2 ton
and powered by a Kubota 4-cylinder diesel engine. The equivalent tracked machine is the T450
which is a little heavier at 2.7 ton. Following the release of the Bobcat E20, Universal Hobbies have
now followed up with 1:25th scale replicas of the S450 wheeled skid steer and T450 compact
track loader.

he Unic UR-W295C predominantly from die-cast been replicated, like the four be rotated through 360 degrees

and has a maximum
lifting height above ground
level of 8.8m. Tipping the scales
at 1850kg, the crane is narrow
enough to pass through a
standard size doorway and is
powered by either a Mitsubishi
petrol engine or an electric
power unit.
One of the surprise finds at
Bauma was a 1:24th scale model
of the UR-W295C mini crawler
crane which is constructed
metal parts and has some great
functionality. The chassis has
rubber tracks which are very
thin with a ridged tread pattern
while the main body has a clear
sticker populated with the various
switches, dials and warning
labels with levers fitted to the
upper edge which would control
the various functions on the full
sized machine.
When holding the model, the
weight is impressive and once
you start to investigate the
model, all the main
functionality has
outriggers which pivot out
into position. Each leg has a
telescopic extension with a
pivoting pad and they fold into
the working position before being
lowered using the fairly stiff
hydraulics which allow the entire
chassis to be lifted off the
ground. The lifting boom has an
integrated winch with winding
handle allowing the hook to be
adjusted while the single stage
telescopic section extends
out with height adjustment
provided by another stiff
cylinder. The boom can

The model has been
produced for promotional
purposes and as such, it is not
currently available to purchase,
so anyone wanting to get their

Until recently, the full range of diecast models for the Manitowoc crane
group were supplied by THW and since their demise, new models of any
Manitowoc group range have been lacking. That has now changed with
Conrad once again producing Grove crane models, starting with the
launch of the 6-axle GMK6300L telescopic mobile crane. As is typical of
a Conrad model, the weight is considerable with plenty of functionality
built into the replica.

In the last issue, I took a detailed look at the coal blade version of the 1:24th scale Caterpillar D10T2
from Classic Construction Models. I now cast my eyes over the ripper version which shares many
of the same castings with a different blade and rear ripper assembly so for this review; I will only
highlight the differences starting with the blade which is of a semi-U design with a slotted upper spill
guard which looks good. The two-tone yellow and black colours are authentically applied with all pin
heads painted over. The main cylinders allow height adjustment of the blade with tilting motion also
possible from the small cylinders mounted to the blade arms. The three ripper shanks are separate
in the box and slide into the recesses in the ripper frame where they are secured with a metal pin.
There are two height options for the shanks and not all of them need to be fitted. The lift and tilt
cylinders on the ripper are fairly stiff and have all the flexible hydraulic lines added.

Jason Nikl Customs

3D Printed Buckets & Attachments
With the technological advances
in 3D printing technology, it is
no surprise to see numerous
aftermarket parts starting to
appear, from replacement tyres to
entire models. Jason Nikl is one
individual who has embraced the
3D printing scene with his own
Shapeways store which has a
number of interesting attachments
for excavators and wheel loaders.
When it comes to replacement
buckets, there are a number of
different shapes and styles for
different tasks and I now take
a look at a diverse range of
interesting work tools that fit the
Norscot Caterpillar 336E tracked
excavator which have been
developed by Jason.
The shapeways store offers
printing in different types of
material which ultimately result
in different finishes on the parts.
The ultra detail parts tend to be
good enough to use without
any sanding while the lower
cost plastic parts do have
a rough surface finish
which can be seen once
painted if no additional
finishing work is undertaken.
On all the items reviewed here,
I have used Vallejo paint which
has been applied with a paint
brush resulting in a fairly good
end result.

Loading Buckets
There are several different styles of
general purpose bucket available along
with a narrow trenching bucket. All of
themare directly fitted to the quick
coupler and have some rather good
surface detailing of the wear protection
on the underside of the bucket while
the teeth are particularly well defined,
with both chisel teeth and Tiger teeth
options available. All three buckets
shown here have been printed in the
ultra high detail material which gives
excellent definition of the fine detailing.

Grading Buckets
Two grading buckets are available with different widths. The widest
version has a shallow profile and is printed in the ultra high detail
material which is semi-transparent. The narrower of the two has
drainage holes and has been printed in the standard plastic material
which does have a slightly rough finish.

The sand bucket has been
printed in the white plastic with
a polished finish and as such, the
surface texture is actually quite
good. The inside surfaces of the
bucket are a little rougher but
this does not detract from the
visual appearance. The saddle is
integrated into the upper frame

bucket is an ideal work tool. With open sides and elongated
lower section with teeth and structural ribbing, the bucket
can prize out large sections of a surface efficiently and this
detail has been replicated on the 5-toothed bucket which
really does look good. It has been printed in the ultra high
detail material.

Chuck Blade
One rather interesting attachment for the 336E is a chuck
blade which is again printed in the ultra high detail plastic.
The main blade has a smooth front surface with lower cutting
blade detailing while the rear has excellent structural detailing.
It is mounted to a pivoting bracket which allows angular
adjustment and the fit here is fairly stiff, so the angle chosen
will remain in position. Interestingly, on this attachment, the
fixed pin on the coupler plate is a part of the printed part unlike
the other attachments which require a metal pin to be fitted.

Thumb
A mechanical thumb
attachment has been designed
for the 336E and this fixes in
place onto the front surface of
the stick. It has an integrated
frame with a pivoting thumb
arm and support bar which
can be fixed into the working
or storage position with the
use of a small metal pin. It has
been printed from the ultra
high detail plastic.

Root Rake
The rake attachment is actually produced from a metal material and
has been cast from a mold using a 3D printed master. The casting of
the ripper tines is very crisp with contoured tip and structural ribbing
details. It is a good addition when paired with the thumb attachment
for land clearance work.

which are ideal for replacing
the rubber band style tracks
found on older models. The
