10. How will you structure planning activities? Explain.

A number of factors affect the method used by an organization to structure
its planning activities. These include the following:
Size of the organization The larger the organization, the greater
the number of people and planning specialist available to plan.
Smaller organizations may be forced to rely on one-or a few
managers to perform any significant planning activities. Larger
organizations can afford to use planning specialists and maybe in
better position to free their managers from the time required to
engage in planning.
Degree of Decentralization Planning in a multiproduct,
decentralized organization is likely to be more diffused than in
centralized organization. Each division or production facility in a
decentralized operation is likely to play a significant role in
developing major plans. Although such plans may be coordinated
by a planning authority located at the headquarters office,
managers of decentralized organizations are likely to have more
responsibility than their counterparts in highly centralized
operations.
Personality of Top Management Some top managers prefer to
work with a specialized planning staff. Others desire participation
from middle- and supervisory-level managers and require them to
assume the major responsibility for planning.
Nature of the Service/Product Multi product companies may
assign planning responsibilities to relatively low organizational
level. Decentralization would put planning in the hands of managers
who are closer to the chains clientele.

14. How to Change Organization according to Janssen?

Janssens Model of Change says that every organization has 4
windows reflecting different stages of change, namely: COMFORT,
DENIAL, CONFUSION and RENEWAL. The COMFORT Window refers
to areas where the organization is in current comfort, or not experiencing
any pressure to change. The DENIAL Window refers to areas of concern
which have not been acknowledged at all. The CONFUSION Window
refers to areas of concern which have been acknowledged by all but which
lack clear directions. The RENEWAL Window refers to areas where the
organization has reached resolutions or made decisions and is moving
towards desired directions. Janssen points out that while the windows may
represent different change processes, the changes may also be cyclical,
moving from one window to another.
