Cerebro vascular accident

Cerebrovascular disease (stroke) is brain cell damage (infarction) due to decreased of blood
supply which is caused by cloth blockage or rupture of an artery to the brain and also causes
of dementia and depression (Owolabi et al, 2015). The morbidity and mortality rates of stroke
is increasing significantly and become a concern almost everywhere around the world, both
in developed and developing countries. Globally, stroke is the second leading cause of death
and the third leading cause of disability (WHO, 2015). WHO Categorized stroke as a
chronic diseases are a health problem which persists for a long time (WHO, 2017). However,
the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (2017) describe clearly that stroke as chronic
diseases because cerebrovascular disease persists for over a long period of time which is
characterized by complex causality, health complication and associated with functional
disability. These characteristics imply that patients with stroke suffer from deteriorating
conditions in many aspects of patient lifespan such as functional limitation, daily and social
activities restriction which is affect to decrease their quality of life (Griffith, 2017) as Hayes
(2012) argued that disability impact of stroke is greater than other diseases, and many people
living with chronic disability which is caused by stroke.

Nursing profession has been exposing to care people with stroke and its comorbidities in a
range area of nursing care. This condition challenging nurses to meet requirement on
knowledge, skill and attitude in chronic disease to accomodate holistic and comprehensive
care to stroke patiens and their family (Chang & Jhonson, 2014). Consider to the knowledge
and increasing of the number of people who live with chronic illness, nurses require wide
range of intervention to support and promote functional ability which are engage with stroke
patients life stage and this essay will describe and analyse physical, psychological and social
impact of stroke as one of chronic health condition.
