POPULATION IN EUROPE

Europe - high populated: it has the third largest population in the world.

- Population 739 million.

- Density 105 inhab./km2

- Highest population density Belgium, Italy, Germany, UK, the Netherlands.

- Less populated countries Norway, Sweden, Finland.

- 75 % of European population lives in urban areas.

- Biggest cities Moscow, Paris, London, Madrid, Berlin, Rome and Athens.

AGEING POPULATON

- Birth rate and death rate are low.

- Life expectancy in Europe 80 years.

- Europe is an ageing continent number of people of 65 is nearly the same as the number of
young people.

- In the future more people are going to need pensions and healthcare and fewer people to
pay for them.

- Europes population is still growing due to migratory movements.

CULTURAL DIVERSITY

- Europe is a multicultural continent a great diversity of cultures, beliefs and traditions.

- More than 200 languages are spoken in Europe.

EUROPEAN UNION (EU)

- Political and economic union of 28 countries of Europe.

- EU improves the economic and social development of the member states and protects the
right of EU citizens.

- Created in 1957 (EEC) to promote economic cooperation.

- In 1993 ECC became the European Union.

- Economic and political decisions affect all the countries.

- There are 24 official languages.

- EU citizens can move freely within the EU.

Euro official currency in 18 countries. Spain adopted in 2002.
