To increase idle
speed,ECM retracts IAC valve pintle from seat. increasing air by-passing
the throttle bore. to decrease idle speed, ECM extends IAC valve
pintle toward the seat. reducing air by-passing throttle bore. A Scan
tool will read ECM commands to theIAC valve in counts. higher counts indicate less air allowed
lem. An out-of-control range lAC 'Scan" tool reading counts will be greater
than 60 if idle is too low. and zero counts it idle is too high.
Vacuum Leak (high Idle) - If idle is too high. stop the engine. Fully
extend (low) IAC with Scan tool. Start engine. If idle speed is greater
than 800 RPM. locate and correct vacuum leak, Including PCV system.
System too lean (high air/fuel ratio) -if Idle speed may be too high or
too low. Engine speed may very end disconnecting IAC does not help.
Code 44 may be set. Scan oxygen sensor voltage will be less than 0.3 volt.
Check tor low regulated fuel pressure. water in the fuel or a restricted
Injector.
system Too Rlch (Low Air/Fuel Ratio) - ldle speed will be too low.
Scan' tool reading counts will usually be greater than 80. System is rich
veltage reading will be fixed greater than 0.8 volt. Check for high fuel pres-
Throttle Body - Remove IAC and inspect bore for foreign material.
ECM automatically resets IAC once each Ignition cycle when vehicle is
driven at speeds greater than 30 MPH. To reset iAC. warm engine to normal
within normal count range after the reset procedure. ECM assumes the
relearn procedure failed. ECM will then repeat relearn procedure until
