Dynatrace Application Monitoring

Professional Certification

Certification Blueprint
Introduction
The Application Monitoring Professional Certification covers Dynatrace Application Monitoring technologies.
It validates that you have the skills and competencies to integrate Dynatrace Application Monitoring into your
application(s), monitor application performance and user experience, analyze results, and troubleshoot
issues.
This certification blueprint provides the content and context of the Application Monitoring Professional
Certification. Please read this blueprint in its entirety to gain a thorough understanding of certification
expectations and requirements.

Prerequisite Knowledge
While knowledge of Dynatrace Application Monitoring is required to achieve this certification, examinees
must also have working knowledge in the following areas:

Object-oriented programming: Java or .NET

Service Oriented Application (SOA) Architectures

Application Servers, such as WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat, IIS, etc.

Processes in Windows, UNIX, VMware, etc.

Certification Preparation
Application Monitoring Professional Certification is intended for APM professionals who have both
theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience with Application Monitoring. Examinees must demonstrate
proficiency in both to pass the certification. The combination of virtual instructor led training (vILT) courses,
self-paced learning on Dynatrace University, self-study on the Dynatrace Community, and some basic
hands-on experience will prepare the examinee for certification. We strongly recommend that candidates
achieve the following milestones in preparation for the certification:

Application Monitoring Associate Certification (Required)


At least six months of experience working with Application Monitoring in a medium to
large installation (up to 200 agents)

Be an active participant in the Dynatrace Community including:


o Product documentation
o Knowledge Base articles
o Discussion forums
o Dynatrace Online Performance Clinics

Certification Format
This certification is administered in two parts:
1. Application Monitoring Professional Written Exam
2. Application Monitoring Professional Practical Exam
You must pass the written portion of the exam prior to sitting for the practical portion. The written
and practical portions are administered in two separate sessions. You must complete the practical
portion within three months of passing the written.

Written Exam
The written portion of the certification is approximately 110 questions including both multiple-choice
and multiple-response items.

1. Multiple-choice: select one option from a list that best answers the question or
completes the statement.
2. Multiple-response: select multiple options from a list to answer the question or
complete the statement. Multiple-response test items are clearly identified.

You will be given two hours to complete the written portion of the certification. The written portion is 100%
computer graded, with a passing score of 76%.
Scheduling
Certification exams are administered and proctored by Examity. Dynatrace has partnered with Examity,
an online proctoring service, to protect the value of the certification. By utilizing an online proctor, there is
no need to travel to a testing center. Each exam can be taken on a computer, from almost any location.
To schedule an exam, please log in to Dynatrace University and follow the certification icons. Once you
have accepted the Dynatrace Certification Terms and Conditions, you can connect with Examity to
schedule an exam. You must schedule an exam at least 24 hours in advance of the time in which you wish
to take the exam.

Practical Exam
The practical portion of the certification is a hands-on component, requiring examinees to configure
application injection and create Business Transactions to gather data in a heterogeneous Amazon Web
Services environment. Examinees will analyze stored session files to monitor and diagnose application
performance and end-user experience. Examinees are also required to create a comprehensive business
dashboard to display the data specified.
The practical portion of the exam consists of multiple-choice questions and open response questions
requiring examinees to submit screen captures of finished tasks. The open response items require manual
grading, therefore examinees will receive results within 3 to 5 days of completing the practical portion of
the exam.
The passing score for the practical is 86%. You will be given three hours to complete the practical
portion of the exam.

Payment
An exam may be paid for by credit card or by using a promotional code. Promotional codes can be
obtained in exchange for your points or if you have opted for certifications in your Product Schedule,

this code.
