W e admit it this is a pretty offbeat pairing. In the black
corner, we have Volkswagens iconic Corrado VR6, the car
that took the MkII Golf platform (and bits of Passat) and
skyrocketed it upmarket, with rumbling six-pot aggression.
In the white corner, Hondas hyperactive Integra Type-R a stripped-
down, bare-bones track terror with balletic poise and a rev counter with
silly numbers on it. How can two such contrasting coups be rivals? Well,
for starters, similar money will buy you either one of these cars today.
Their 0-60 times are also just a couple of tenths apart, with near-identical
top speeds. But, most importantly, both cars have been heralded as the
finest front-wheel-drive models from their respective makers.
The Integra arrived as the Corrado bowed out, but the decades have
muddied the lack of overlap to smoosh these machines together as unlikely
but surprisingly appropriate sparring partners. As smallish, four-seat
liftbacks with hair-raising performance potential, they force you to
prioritise: do you want to be exhilarated or cosseted? Pampered or
prodded? So its Minato versus Osnabrck. Let battle commence after

CLASSIC CAR INSURANCE?
Ring an insurance broker thats not Hagerty. Spend half an
hour explaining why your classic isnt just an old banger.

Politely decline home, pet and travel insurance. Patiently

explain that you only need agreed value classic car
insurance. To get off the phone, promise to get a quote
for your home in the near future.

Go out to the garage, pull off your cars cover, snap several
photographs. Email photos but hear back that the photos
are too dark or we need six and you only sent five.

Cough up a 15-50 certification fee, on top of your

policy premium.

Wait on hold half an hour while their staff reviews the

information. Lose the connection. Ring back, get transferred
to three wrong departments. Get put on hold again.

The Agreed Value certification finally arrives. You begin

looking forward to repeating the entire tedious, maddening
process, fee included, if you want to increase your value again.
