NC MATH 2 HONORS SYLLABUS

Welcome to Math 2 Honors at Rolesville High School. I am looking forward to helping you achieve excellence as you
continue to explore the basic building blocks of algebra and geometry introduced in Math 1. Topics we will focus on include
transformations, congruence, similarity, geometry, quadratics and probability. You are encouraged to come to class every day,
study regularly, complete all assignments with diligence and always ask for help when you need it. If you do these things, I am
confident you will be successful in this class.

Congratulations on accepting the challenge of an honors mathematics class. As an honors student, you will be given the
opportunity to explore the curriculum at a deeper level. In addition, because you excel in mathematics and have the potential
to earn a higher weighted GPA, the expectations in this course will be greater than that of an academic level class.

MATERIALS:
Required Recommended
A one-subject notebook (Composition or Spiral) TI-84 or higher graphing calculator
Pencils with erasers Dry erase markers
Glue sticks Tape (clear adhesive tape)
Colored pencils/ pens

CLASS POLICIES
ATTENDANCE
To achieve success in mathematics, it is important for you to attend class regularly. Many students have difficulty trying to
learn math work on their own after an absence. Each days class work builds on prior learning. If a student misses just one
day, they have difficulty following new assignments. You will have ONE WEEK to make up tests for full credit. When you
are absent, check the website/absent bin for your assignments. An absence of one class period will not excuse a student from
turning in previously assigned work on the day they return to class.

GRADING
Class Breakdown Semester Breakdown
Tests/Projects 60% Quarter 1 40%
Quizzes 30% Quarter 2 40%
Classwork/Homework 10% Final Exam 20%

**Students will take the NC Final Exam at the completion of this course.**

HOMEWORK
Each unit you will be given a homework calendar and homework packet for that unit. Homework will be checked
daily for completion on a 0 4 point scale. You will earn full credit if ALL problems are clearly attempted and all
necessary work is shown. You will earn 1 or 2 points if your assignment is incomplete. If you do not have your
homework, no points are awarded. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to show me the assignment when you are well, as well as
getting the homework you missed.

CLASSWORK & INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK We will be creating structured notebooks that will serve as our
textbooks for this class. As part of your classwork grade you will have interactive notebook checks at the end of each
quarter. You are required to keep your notebook in order as designated by the teacher. Notebooks will be checked for
completion and accuracy following the notebook grading rubric.
QUIZZES Quizzes are to be expected every week and may or may not be announced. If you are absent on the day
of a quiz, you will need to make it up immediately after you return to class. No quizzes can be made up after the
completion of the unit. It is YOUR responsibility to schedule a time to make up your quiz after school, before school
or during lunch. Quizzes may not be made up during class time.
The 50 Club: If you make above a 50 on your quiz and show mastery by scoring higher on your test, your quiz grade
will be replaced by your test grade. If you make below a 50 on your quiz and pass your test your quiz grade will be
replaced by a 60.

TESTS Tests will always be announced. If you are absent the day before a test, you must still take the test with your
class. If you are absent on the day of a test, you have ONE WEEK to make up the test without deduction. It is
YOUR responsibility to schedule a time to make up your test after school, before school or during lunch. Tests and
quizzes may not be made up during class time. If you wait until the quarter deadlines to make up a test, then you will
have a deduction up to 30 points taken off of your test grade.

TEST CORRECTIONS/ RETEST : Every student has the potential to excel in this class. After a unit test, all
students will be given the opportunity to earn 10 additional points by completing a shorter Gimme Back My Points
(GBMP) assessment during lunch or office hours. Students will earn credit back for each correct answer on the
GBMP. If a students initial test score is below 50% but they demonstrate mastery on the GBMP, their test score
will be recovered to 60%. In order to to take a GBMP assessment students must complete test corrections
first.

OFFICE HOURS Office hours will be held after school every Tuesday from 2:30 3:30. I will be available to help
students during this time. Please let me know in advance if you will not have a ride and will need to ride the activity bus
that afternoons. Other days after school and in the morning or lunch are available by appointment only.

TEACHER WEBSITE/REMIND
My website will be updated with course information including topics covered and dates of upcoming assessments/
events. Under each course you find a tab to sign up for Remind and weekly Newsletter Updates. My website is

BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE

BYOD means students bring their own devices to school for educational purposes. In the classroom, students will
use devices responsibly, and only with the permission and direction of the teacher or other staff member. The
increased use of technology in RHS classrooms will power up student success today, and for the future. Just
like tardy table, violations accumulate by each individual class over the course of each quarter. Violations restart
each quarter.
First violation: Verbal warning.
Second violation: Final verbal warning.
Third violation: Student will be verbally directed to select one of two options:
A: Student will shutdown the device and place it in a secure location in the classroom as designated by instructor.
B: Student will shut down the device and place it in their own personal belongings for the remainder of the class.
Fourth and subsequent violations: Student will be escorted to ISS for the remainder of the period. Device
is confiscated by administrator. Loss of BYOD privilege may be revoked by administrator.
