The SIMPLE PRESENT is used to describe an
action that is habitual.

Examples: I travel by train every day.


John lives in Boston
They get up at 7 oclock
It rains a lot in the summer.
VERB CONJUGATION

I/you/we/they speak English
He/she/it speaks English

The spelling for the verb in the 3rd. Person (he, she,
it) changes.
When the verb finishes in O, CH, SH, SS, X or Z, we add
ES to the verb.
Example: I go home early.
She goes home early
Other verbs: brush, wash, fix, etc.

When the verb finishes in a consonant + Y, we remove


the Y and add IES to the verb.
Example: I study English.
She studies English.
Other verbs: copy, carry, etc.

When the verb finishes in a vowel + Y, we just add S to the verb.


Example: I play soccer.
He plays soccer
Other verbs: pay, stay. .
NEGATIVE
To make a sentence negative we use DONT or DOESNT

We use dont for I, you, we and they.


We use doesnt for he, she and it.

Examples: I speak English


I dont speak English
She speaks English
She doesnt speak English

NOTICE that the S in the affirmative disappears in the


negative

QUESTIONS
To ask questions we use DO or DOES.

We use DO for: I, you, we and they
