Message From Presidente Dayton

He Will Preserve the Righteous

Queridos Elderes y Hermanas we had another wonderful week in the Spain Barcelona Mission.
The Lord blessed us this past week with 12 incredible baptisms! I feel so grateful to our
Heavenly Father for these precious gifts and blessings that we have the privilege of helping
into the Kingdom of God. Lest we forget and think that it is because of our own prowess I
remind you that every baptism we are blessed to play a role in is a gift from our Heavenly
Father. We give all thanks and praise to our God above for the amazing and choice blessings
of this past week. These 12 baptisms are spirit brothers and sisters that we knew and walked
amongst in the pre-mortal life. How the angels are rejoicing because they have started down
the path that leads to life with their Father. However, the Lord doesnt bless us unless we do
our part and I acknowledge and express gratitude to the hard work, dedication and humility
of our missionaries who love this work so much and do it so well. What a great week!

On a sadder note, Hermana Dayton and I have mourned with all of you the savage and
brutal attack on innocent men, women and children in this beautiful city that we love so
muchBarcelona. We love her warm and gracious people, the supportive and kind
members who do so much for our missionaries, her beautiful buildings and art, the fascinating
history that has played out in its streets, and its temperate and pleasant climate. You should
know that we have heard from many, many El Faro alumni who send their love and their
thoughts as they recall with fondness their unforgettable experiences in this city that is a jewel
by the sea. You all know by now that at least 14 people were killed and over 100 injured by
an ISIS terrorist intentionally driving a van at full speed into a tourist-packed Rambla at about
5:00 PM. People from many nations were killed or wounded and the only American killed was
a member of the Church from northern California. Shortly after the attack, we received
notification from the Church Security office of the attack. At their request, within 45 minutes
we had contacted every companionship in the 3 zones in the Barcelona area and confirmed
that no one was injured. I can not tell you how grateful Hermana Dayton and I were to learn
that ALL of our missionaries were safe.

These senseless, pointless suicide attacks by a truly evil enemy are frightening and could
cause us to wonder whether we should be out proselyting with that dangerous element
present all around us. I have felt a sense of peace and calm since the event because I know
the Lord is with us and will protect us. The scriptures are full of His promises to his missionaries
and people who are living righteously. You could summarize all of them up by saying, He will
preserve the righteous. These wonderful promises are found in almost all of our canonized
scriptures. Number 14:9 says, the Lord is with us: fear them not. Psalms 31:23 confirms
that, the Lord preserveth the faithful Isaiah 52:12 reminds us that the Lord will go
before you. In the New Testament is the beautiful promise made in Matthew 28:20 where the
Lord promises, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Mark makes an even
more dramatic promise to the early missionaries when he tells them that, They shall take up
serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;

Both the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants contain similar promises to the people
of God. In 1 Nephi 22:17 we are comforted by, Wherefore, he will preserve the righteous by His
power. and 1 Nephi 22:14 promises that , And all that fight against Zion shall be
destroyed. Finally we have the beautiful scripture in D&C 84:88 which reminds us , for I
will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in
your hearts, and mine angels round about you to bear you up.

Thus, dear elders and hermanas, we should feel a sense of peace and protection as we
continue this great work uninterrupted. I have felt that peace and calm, that tranquility. I know
that the Lord will watch over you and protect you as you do His work. Our responsibility is to use
wisdom and not to place ourselves unwisely into a situation that invites danger and possible
harm. The Lord does expect us to use good judgment. May the Lord continue to watch over
and protect the greatest missionaries on the earths great face is my prayer.

Message From Hermana Dayton

El Clarn Letter

How grateful we are that each of you are doing well. Following the tragic event in Barcelona
last Thursday, we feel such gratitude that you were not involved, that you were safe and
protected and we mourn the loss of the innocent victims. Immediately following the event, we
were contacted by church security and asked to give a reporting that each of you were safe.
We then drafted an email to your parents to assure them of your safety. Our office staff worked
quickly and efficiently to get that email out to each of your parents. We did all we could to
assure them that you were safe and had been protected. We received many, many emails and
phone calls from parents, family, friends, and others across the world telling us that they were
praying for you dear missionaries. Over the past couple of days, I have reflected much about
each one of you---and how dearly loved you are, not only by your parents but by people all
over the world! You represent the Savior and all that is good in our world. I have reflected on the
many prayers that are being offered daily for each one of you. I thought of the thousands of
people who attend the temple and know that the missionaries are mentioned in the prayer roll
at over 150 temples multiple times daily. I assume you are the most prayed for group of people
on all of the earth!

We love you very much and we will continue to pray for each one of you daily. We hope you
will continue to feel the Saviors love and the peace that only He can offer as you go about
doing His work to bless the people in Spain.

Dear Families of Spain Barcelona Mission missionaries,

By now you may have heard that today there was a tragic event which occurred at the Plaza
Catalua near Barcelona's City Center. A van plowed into a crowd of people on the famed
Rambla causing serious injuries to more than 20 people; CNN reports at least one death in the
attack. Immediately after I was notified of this by Church Security, my Assistants made calls to
every single companionship in the Barcelona, Badalona and Hospitalet Zones (more than 70
missionaries in our mission) which are all in the Barcelona area. Gratefully all missionaries are
accounted for and none were involved. If your missionary is not in one of those 3 zones, it would
be highly unlikely they would be affected since they need permission from the mission president
to leave their zone and none had requested said permission. We are so grateful the Lord has
watched over His missionaries and protected them once again. We love them very much and
feel honored and grateful that we can serve side by side with them in this great work of bringing
souls to Christ. We pray for the victims of this senseless tragedy and ask the Lord's blessings to be
and comfort them during this difficult time.

The Miracle of Baptism so grateful you were able to

Mission life is amazing!!! I love it
and now he has quit smoking

and I feel so blessed to be
here!!! George's baptism was
definitely the miracle of the
week and like you said I am so
blessed!! After I went up and
asked him how he felt he said " I scripture study a habit in his life. Christ. Seeing him enter into
feel like I'm walking with angels, I
feel so good, and I feel that I
am not alone anymore." My
heart broke into a million pieces- Gospel now. I'm so glad Elder
- he is amazing! Afterwards he
shared his testimony about the
gospel, which was the most
amazing part for me. He has so
much faith and loves this gospel
so much. He is my best friend.
He wants to share the gospel
with every one and he has
started to come to lessons with
us and practice testifying in
Spanish! The baptism couldn't
have been more perfect! He
was baptized at 1am Sunday
morning!! President said we
broke the record for having the
latest baptism!
Wow what a wonderful week it This weekend we were blessed
has been here in ______. Of
course the miracle of the week
was Paco's baptismal service.
He is truly a changed man and
it makes me so happy to have
had just a fraction of a part in
his conversion. This gospel really the ward but more than
is one of joy and hope for
everyone no matter where they
have been in their past. Paco is
a great example to me of faith
and really handing everything
over to the Savior and letting
him change you. It has been
such a great experience to get
to know him.
The great miracles we saw this
week were the baptisms and
confirmations of Ricardo and
Miguel. Ricardo has come far.
When we found him he was
smoking 10 cigarettes a day
and instead is focused on
following Jesus Christ and
helping others. Miguel has
become friends with many of
the members and has made
I'm so grateful to be able to
see how they have been
prepared to accept the
_______ got the opportunity to
baptize so early in his mission. It as another child of God found
really was a special
experience to see the change
in these men and I'm so
excited to see them progress
towards priesthood service
and temple covenants. Elder
_______ is always striving to be
kind to others. He is friendly
and courteous to members

much need that support,

Josue's baptismal service
which was so sweet and
powerful. There was so much
support and preparation by

perform that ordinance and
hug his son afterwards.
Witnessing experiences first
hand like that bring such a
profound spirit, that's what the
mission is all about. I always
love hearing their testimonies
shared afterwards. There's no
better way to spend a Friday This week was fantastic, we
night. Samba was baptized
Saturday night, which we are
attend. Seeing Samba just
embrace the gospel and fall in
the love with the Book of
Mormon is so special. He has
such a strong desire to follow
the waters of baptism was
amazing, the start of a new life
completely clean. I just know
with certainty that the angels
in heaven were singing with joy
the correct path. It's so special
knowing that he is one of the
newest and cleanest members
of the church on the earth
today. Thank you so much for
your words shared and for your
powerful testimony afterwards.

felt the unique spirit there.

went so well. She was fasting
there was a lot of support from
the branch! The spirit was so
strong throughout the baptism
and she told us her cheeks
were hurting from smiling so
much! Her testimony touched
the hearts of everyone there

light to those around her..

Maricela is doing amazing! She
is really looking forward to
going to the temple and being
an influence to her family. We
will be re-teaching her all the
lessons so she is ready for the
temple.

baptism was very reverent and
beautiful and then right after
she received the gift of the
Holy Ghost, there was just a
calm spirit of love there. Then
she gave her testimony. The
testimony she gave was very
powerful and guided by the
Holy Ghost. I know she is still
young but she will always
remember that special night.
We found Dayanara through
her aunt who is now a recent
convert but when we met
Dayanara she was not
baptized yet. We found her
and then baptized her
because the Lord blessed her
and us since the
beginning. This week I have
noticed that my companion
always takes the time to help
someone feel special. During
the baptism we passed out
paper for everyone to write
their testimonies on, and he
has come up with other little
things to give her to help
remind her of her baptism. He
could have just not done
anything but I really respect
how much he time and effort
he takes to help someone.
Well things are well here in
_________. The Spirit has been
a powerful companion to me
this week. We had a baptism!!
Baptisms always remind me just
how worth it the mission is.
There are many rewards from a
mission but the salvation of a
soul is so worthwhile. After the
ordinance, David looked at
me and said, Wow, I feel

great! And that's a statement us that she had been thinking
that David normally wouldn't of dates to be baptized in
