Presidents Letter
Happy February OSC family!

I hope this newsletter finds you well and

that your year is off to a great start!! With
Scotts retirement just around the corner, I
have been able to reflect on what the Air
Force and the OSC family has meant to us. I
think of all the moves, and the many years
of fun, adventure, and friendship that we
have enjoyed across the past 25 years.

We have been blessed to be part of an incredible and diverse community of

caring people and have been surrounded by an amazing support group at
every turn. At each assignment, we have met people who have befriended
us, challenged us, and who have been there in good times and bad. There
is nothing quite like the communal feeling of military life and we feel so
fortunate to have shared a significant part of our lives in it. You have
made this assignment a wonderful one with your involvement, your time
and talents, and your love for this group. OSC has proven to be an
incredible opportunity to grow, and I know that the friendships formed
here will last a lifetime. I thank you for your support: to OSC, to each
other, and to our entire military community. YOU make this military life
special and YOU are the leaders who make things happen. Together, we
will continue to do good things to support the OSC in its mission of
building a sense of community and providing scholarships to Maxwell
children and spouses.

Again, thank you for all that you do! I look forward to continuing to be
involved as your president and cant wait for the fun times ahead!

Warmest affection,

Kris Yancy
Maxwell Gunter OSC President

Volunteer Appreciation
Wed like to thank everyone for your continued support. So many of you have
volunteered in the store, brought food in for volunteers, consigned, donated
or shopped over the past several months. And some of you have done ALL of
those things! Every small bit adds up to a successful mission and it has been
especially meaningful in this year of rebuilding! Thank you!!!

Now Recruiting Volunteers for

Maxwell-Gunter Tax Assistance
Program!
Team Maxwell needs your help in order to continue and enhance our base tax
assistance program in CY17. Due to a change in Air Force policy, active-duty members
are no longer authorized to serve as tax volunteers as an additional duty. Therefore, we
need to recruit new volunteers from military spouses, retired members/dependents,
Reserve/Guard members (in personal capacity) and local college students. If you
have a few hours per week to volunteer, well provide the training and support.
Air Force Tax Assistance programs are command programs designed, in compliance
with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Standards of Conduct, to provide free tax
assistance and filing services to eligible beneficiaries. Last year, our base program also
prepared over 788 Federal and State returns with the support of 21 tax volunteers,
providing a total savings of $36,551. This year, we plan to open two separate locations
on Maxwell and Gunter Annex, provided we can recruit sufficient volunteer support. The
Maxwell-Gunter program will be open from 1 February through 17 April 2017. There
several great reasons to get involved:.
No prior experience needed. Dont know much about taxes? Dont worry, well
provide specialized training, or you can serve in a volunteer role that doesnt
require tax law certification (such as a site administrator or greeter/screener).

Free tax law training. All volunteers will receive live or online IRS training
coordinated by the 42d ABW Legal Office prior to tax season. Youll learn how to
prepare basic tax returns and learn about tax deductions and credits that benefit
eligible taxpayers. These include credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit,
Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly.

Volunteer hours are flexible. Set your own schedule. Volunteers generally
serve an average of three to five hours per week; more if you wish.

Continuing education credits for tax pros. Enrolled Agents, non-credentialed

tax return preparers, and students can earn credits (preapproved by their
college) when volunteering as a VITA/TCE instructor, quality reviewer or tax
return preparer.

Great way to make a difference, meet new people, build new job skills, and
help those in your local community.

Point of Contact: Please call 421 ABW/JA at (334) 953-2786 or email us at

42abw.ja@maxwell.af.mil if you are interested in volunteering or have any questions.
