Workplace Reflection
The interview with Jennifer McDonald has given me insight on what I need to do to progress
my career. As I already assumed, McDonald (n.d.) has confirmed her career progression has
happened through a series of un-defined building blocks. At this point in my career, I have a
goal that Id like to achieve in the next 10-15 years, but I am not sure what steps I will be taking
to achieve that. I look forward to learning from these opportunities to come.
I believe my values and qualities are in-lined with McDonalds. McDonald recommends
learning as much as you can from the operational side of the business in order to have the
background knowledge. I am currently working full-time while completing my studies in a role
that gives me exposure to a range of disciplines, Administration, Property, Accounting and
Human Resources. I value hard-work and the power of knowledge, and I believe by working
while I am studying, I am giving myself exposure to achieving success. McDonald puts value
on experience gives confidence, which I have noticed in my own progression in my career.
McDonald states that Studies opened opportunities on the way. I am currently studying a
Bachelor of Business, Majoring in HR and Accounting. Much like McDonald, I find that I can
put into practice some of the concepts I am currently studying. This assists me to understand the
concepts I am studying better, and be able to demonstrate these concepts practically.
McDonald talks about being a People-Person and the challenges of being the middle man
between Management looking to fill the position and the candidates. I believe I am a people
person and would enjoy a work style where I am talking to people and understanding their
needs. I believe the fast-paced high-pressure of a Human Resources role would suit my working
style as I work well under high pressure.
When I help people, I feel great. From McDonalds Interview, she talks about the rewards of
giving people a job when they really want it, need it or deserve it. I believe this kind of reward
will help to fulfil me in the work place and create a great sense of accomplishment.
From McDonalds interview, her building blocks didnt seem to be defined however upon
reflection they fell into place. After listening to Jennifer McDonald, I believe I need to look into
the next short-term steps that may assist me into achieving my aspirations of a Human
Resources Manager. Some of the ways I could do this is by expanding my knowledge of People
and Work, for example a Certificate in Dispute Resolution.
