JOB 01

(a) To standardize the pace length of a man

(b) Measurements of triangulation scheme with the help of pace length

(a)

To standardize the pace length of a man

Purpose :

The Purpose of this job to standardize the pace length of a man so he may
know his standard pace length while he is measuring some length or doing
survey without using measuring instruments like measuring tape etc.

Apparatus :

Following are the measuring instruments which we used in this job.

1. Fiberglass Tape 2. Ranging Rods 3. Pegs

Procedure:

i. Stretch the tape up to our desired length , however we take it 30 meter length as the
standard length.
ii. Put ranging rods at the both selected points (as shown in the following picture)
iii. A man walking from one selected point to other selected point which is at 30 m away
from one point with normal paces.Take at least 2 readings.
iv. Calculate the average of the number of steps from one ranging rod to another
ranging rod.
v. Divide 30 m length by total number of paces.
vi. The total result of above calculation will tell the approximately one pace length of the
man.

A 30m B

Observations and Calculations :

Total Length b/w the ranging rods = 30 m

No. of steps from A to B = 41 steps
No. of steps from B to A = 39 steps
41+39
Avg. no. of steps = = 40 steps
2
30
Total pace length = 40

Hence my pace length is 0.75 meter.

Precautions :

i. The ground surface should be a plane surface .

ii. The ranging rods must be placed accurately at the center of the marked points.
iii. A man must take the similar steps from one point to another point.
iv. A man must walk straightly from point to another point.
v. Count the number of steps carefully.

Comments :

i. I am able to check the total pace length of me.

ii. I am able to measure any length by pacing without using measuring instruments.

(B)

Measurements of Triangulation scheme with the help of pace length.

Purpose:
The purpose of this job to measure the total length of any scheme by pacing.

Apparatus:
1. Ranging Rods 2. Fiberglass tape

Procedure:
i. Placed the ranging rods at the centers of the point of the triangular scheme.
ii. Then started from point A to B and then B to A . Similarly for the other all the points
of triangle scheme.
iii. Drew the rough sketch of the triangulation scheme and wrote all numbers of steps
of every side of the triangular scheme as shown in the following figure.
iv. By multiplying the number of paces with the total pace length.

Triangular Scheme:

Calculations and Observations :

Line Average No. of Steps Total Length of line

AB 33 steps 33 0.75 = 24.75 m
BC 25 steps 25 0.75 = 18.75 m
CD 15 steps 15 0.75 = 11.25 m
DE 22 steps 22 0.75 = 16.50 m
EA 27 steps 27 0.75 = 20.25 m

Precautions :

i. The ground surface should be plane.

ii. The ranging rods should be placed at the center of the marked points.
iii. A man must take the similar steps from one point to another point.
iv. A man must walk straightly from point to another point.
v. Count the number of steps carefully.
vi. Calculation should be accurately done.

Comments :

i. I am able to calculate the length of any type of scheme.

ii. After performing this job I am able to calculate the length of any track without using
any measuring tape .
