Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to demonstrate proficiency of the Common Core Standards for Geometry. Students will study points, lines, planes
and angles. Then they will study deductive reasoning. Then they will explore parallel lines and planes. Then they will investigate congruent
triangles and quadrilaterals. Then they will study inequalities in geometry before returning to shapes such as similar polygons and the beginning
of right triangles. Relevant constructions might be included throughout the course. Students will study certain topics in Algebra 1 to assist in
calculations required for the course. Throughout the course, students will be given the opportunity to develop logical reasoning skills as they
apply to various topics of study.

Evaluation Criteria:
55% of each semester grade will be based on classwork, homework completion, homework quizzes and participation each class period.
30% of each semester grade will be based on quizzes and tests.
15% of each semester grade will be based on semester final exam.

Textbook: Geometry: Concepts and Applications by Glencoe

Students Required Daily Materials: At each class meeting, students need a 3-ring binder (or a separate section of a 3-ring binder), graph paper,
several pencils (or mechanical pencil) with erasers, several color pens/pencils, and a ruler (with standard and metric scales).

Course Work Expectations: Only work neatly organized with proper heading and done in pencil will be graded.
Assignments will be given at each class meeting, and students are expected to complete all work on time. Students are expected to be prepared
for each class period, and be in their seats ready to work when the tardy bell rings. If a student is tardy to class, the student will not be
permitted to take the beginning of class quiz for that day. Quizzes will be given often and an individual test will be given at the end of each
textbook unit.

Assignments:
Students will be working individually or in teams of two to four during class. Homework will usually be graded on completion and will be
either worth full credit or no credit. For full credit, all problems must be completed or attempted. If a student does not know how
to complete or start a problem, a complete sentence must be written explaining why they are struggling for full credit. Paper
homework assignments are due when the tardy bell rings.

Make Up Work: Students are responsible for understanding all material missed during an absence. Students with an excused absence are
eligible to make up work. Tests, quizzes, classwork, and homework must be made up within five (5) school days after an excused absence. It is
the responsibility of the student to schedule a time after school to make up any tests and quizzes.

Late Work is not accepted.

Participation Points: Participation points will be given weekly for participation in class, good classroom conduct, and bringing all required
materials daily. Failure to do these things will result in a loss of some or all participation points for the week.

Hall Passes: At the beginning of each semester, students will receive two hall passes for bathroom emergencies. A student must present the
hall pass filled out in order to be allowed to use the restroom otherwise the student will receive a tardy.

Cell Phone Policy: Cell phones are not allowed out in the classroom at any time. If a student has a cell phone out, it will be confiscated and the
student may pick it up after school. Repeated offences will be referred to the dean. If a student has a phone out during a testing period, the
phone will be confiscated and the student will receive a zero on the test even if the student has already turned their test in.

Grading Scale: A (89.5-100%) B (79.5-89.49%) C (69.5-79.49%) D (59.5-69.49%) F Failing (0-59.49%)
