This report is intended for the sole use of the recipient and is designed to offer a condition evaluation of the
subject vessel, as found on the day of the survey and in the opinion of the surveyor concerned. The report is
subject to any access restrictions as described herein, and subject always to the level of cooperation afforded
to the surveyor during the inspection itself. All details are given in good faith, and without guarantee.

PART A EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

SURVEYORS
SUMMARY
The example flagged motor vessel, MV Example Vessel is
a Kamsarmax type bulk carrier built at the New Yangzi
Shipbuilding facility in 2013. Initially classed by ABC,
the vessel was subsequently transferred to class ABC.
The vessel was inspected while she was safety alongside
at Example Terminal, Cardiff, UK, whilst fully loaded
with 72,000 ton of coal on 0102 July 2016.

Following this inspection, without exposing areas


normally concealed, testing or opening out the

CONDITION SUMMARY
Hull Condition
The vessel was alongside port side at draft of approx. 9.0m. The port side shell plating, bow and stern were
inspected from the wharf and found in good structural condition without significant damage, indentation or
deformations. The paint coating was found in fair condition with isolated spot coating break down caused by
external contact, poor construction quality and anchor cable chafing at the bow. The stbd side shell plating
inspected on deck and found in similar condition. The propeller and rudder was not visible during attendance
but their reported condition is good.

Focsle & Poop Deck


The forecastle & poop deck found in good condition. Windlasses, mooring winches fairleads and bollards etc.
found in good condition with normal wear and tear. No oil leaking observed on hydraulic motors. Brake linings
found in good condition.

Maindeck & Fittings


The maindeck plating and coating was found in good condition. The deck fittings such as cargo hold entrance
hatches found in fair condition with a lack of maintenance on hinges generally. Piping, cable conduit on deck
found in good condition, but with flanges generally covered with rust stains. Hand rails found in order without
damage or deformations.

Ballast Tanks & Void Spaces


FPT, void space above FPT, No.3 TST port side, No.1 TST Stbd side were internal inspected and found in good
structural and coating condition. Ballast pipe in TST is GRP type and condition is reported as in good condition.
No BWTS is installed.

Accommodation
The accommodation area, galley & mess room, laundry room, crew cabins, deck office and cargo control room
found generally in clean and tidy condition. The office equipment and stationary in deck and engine office
found to a basic standard. Dry and wet provision store generally clean and in good condition and temperature
setting found comply with requirements. The synthetic floor tiles on staircase found generally loose due to
poor installation and/or tile quality.

Navigating Bridge & Communication Equipment


The vessels navigation bridge was well equipped to comply with relevant regulations. The radio and
navigation equipment mostly FURUNO brand and was reported to be in a good working condition. Two ECDIS
were provided on board but were not in operational use and uncertified. Paper charts are the main means of
navigation method.

Engine Room, Machinery & Machinery Spaces


The engine room is designed for unmanned watchkeeping operations. The engine room, casing and funnel,
found adequately lit and ventilated, and generally clean and tidy. The machinery in the engine room,
including main & aux engines, purifiers, coolers, piping, pump and motors, exhaust trunks and laggings etc
found generally clean, with minor oil stains and in good original condition. Tank top generally clean and free
of oily bilge water. The fuel pipes and exhaust trunks were generally well insulated. The main and auxiliary
electrical switchboards situated in the ECR were found to be generally clean and fully operational.

Fire & Safety Appliances


FFE equipment, both fixed and portable were found in good condition and maintained within the service
period and placed in accordance with the LSA/FFE plan. Engine room was protected by a fixed CO2 firefighting
system. The emergency fire pump was arranged in lower stool space between no.5 & 6 cargo hold port side
with entrance from open deck only via a trunk space, unit found in fair condition. Water had accumulated in
the space.

Lifesaving Equipment
The vessel has a free fall lifeboat and a fast rescue boat, both found in a good well maintained condition. The
vessel is also provided with two inflatable life rafts at poop deck each side and one forward of the vessel, they
were found in good condition and mandatory servicing was noted to be up to date. The personal life saving
equipment such as life buoy, life jacket, immersion suit etc. found in good condition and arranged in location
in according to approved LSA plan.

Safe Working
Standard safety orders, instructions, procedures & permits found generally implemented on board and
adhered to. PPE is provided and in use. The vessels working environment including stairways, catwalks,
ladders, platforms etc found in good condition throughout the vessel.

Pollution Control
Vessel pollution control equipment, including incinerator, OWS, sewage treatment plant found maintained in
good condition and reported fully operational. Retention and disposal of waste were recorded in relevant
record logs on board.

Onboard Management & Crew Motivation


The vessel has 20 Filipino crew and is technically operated by Example Ship Management in Manila. Crew
were noted proactive and wellmotivated in their duties during the inspection.

Cargo Systems
The vessel has 7 cargo holds, closed by hydraulic driven side rolling steel hatch covers which were found in
good condition. Holds no. 2, 4, & 6 maybe empty during alternative loading plans. The cargo holds were
generally in good as new structure and coating condition except tank top, hopper plate and lower stool plate.
The ballast pipe, sounding pipe inside the cargo hold were well protected and no significant damage was
observed. The ladders inside cargo holds were generally in intact and good condition. The hatch covers, hatch
coamings, compression bars, rubbers seals, fastening and securing devices were found in good condition. The
hydraulic motor, hose, pipe for open hatch cover found in good condition without oil leaks. The control valve
for hatch cover operation on the control stand found generally corroded/wasted on attached fittings.

CONDITION
