COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Biochemistry Sophomore course is designed to provide undergraduate students an understanding of

fundamental concepts in Biochemistry. Students will learn molecular mechanisms underlying biological
processes, fundamental principles that drive biochemical reactions, molecular organization starting with the
monomeric subunits, structures and how structure relates to function, different techniques in studying
structural properties and finally the metabolic pathways of biological system.

COURSE PREREQUISITE(S)

Introductory Biology

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Lahore University of Management Sciences
To understand fundamental biochemical concept, processes, and structure-function relationship
To have basic idea of various methods and techniques involved in genomics, proteomics and
bioinformatics.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students should be able to comprehend the basic biochemical processes and
concepts involved in various biological systems.
Students will understand the interaction of macromolecules involved in biological processes, chemical
bonding, enzyme kinetics, structure, folding and function.
Additionally, students will demonstrate their knowledge of basic proteomics and bioinformatics and
various techniques associated with protein purification and structural analysis.
