Textbook- Biology Prentice Hall, Biology
The format of the class includes lectures for foundation, discussion, reading,
critical thinking activities, and laboratory investigations. The use of visual material and
library resources will also enhance the learning process.
Classroom Expectations:
- Our classroom is a place of learning. Therefore, you should come to class with the
proper items for learning, such as a writing utensil, book, paper, and any other items
necessary. You should also be attentive during instructional time and give your best
effort on all assignments. Lastly, we are all responsible to make sure that our actions do
not distract others in the class from being able to learn.
- Our classroom is a safe environment. Each student deserves to feel safe expressing
his or her thoughts and feelings in the context of our material and the learning process.
Therefore, there will be no taunting, put downs, or unkind teasing tolerated.
- Our classroom is a place of respect. As a teacher I will treat each of you with
respect. I expect that you will treat me, as well as each of your classmates, with the
same respect. Therefore, we will not interrupt when others are speaking, we will not
take or use things that belong to other people, and we will be considerate of one
anothers feelings.
- Students are required to:
Listen.. no sleeping
Respond to oral and written questions
Read assigned textbook sections
Actively participate in classroom discussions, labs, and activities
Turn in assignments on time
Take notes. They help you learn.
Ask questions. I dont know what you dont know
Place book bags and personal belongings on the floor, or hang them on your chair
Keep your notebook up to date- binder checks is an important part of your grade.
Late Assignments:
Excused: per district policy, students will be given one day of makeup for every day
absent.
Unexcused: NO ABSEBT WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Full credit assignment must be completed when you walk into the classroom on the
day it is due.
Half credit assignments that are turned in completed by the test date for that unit. It
will be marked late and graded accordingly.
Zero credit - Any work not received by the unit test will not be given credit!
Tardiness:
You are tardy if you are not in the classroom and in your seat at the start of the tardy
bell. Please do not try to split hairs over tardiness. Instead, be proactive in planning your daily
routines so that you can get in the habit of being punctual to class. In the event that you are
tardy, we will follow the Anchor Bay High School tardy policy. Whenever possible get a pass to
avoid being marked tardy.
Hall Passes:
Hall passes are a privilege, not a right, and are not to be used to take care of things that
should have been handled during normal passing time. If an emergency should arise, students
should notify the teacher and leave the classroom before becoming ill.
Supplies: Coming prepared to class with the proper supplies is vital component to achieving in
this class. Students are responsible for bring the following items to class each day.
Class Dismissal:
The bell does not dismiss you at the end of class. You must be in a seat until I
dismiss you. We will NOT line up at the door at any time.
Grading Policy
100-95 is an A 76-73 is a C
94-90 is an A- 72-70 is a C-
89-87 is a B+ 69-67 is a D+
86-83 is a B 66-63 is a D
82-80 is a B- 62-60 is a D-
79-77 is a C+ 59-0 is an E
Per district policy, semester grades are computed by averaging the first and second
marking period plus final examination grades in the following proportions: Exams 20%, Marking
Periods 40%
