Upon successful completion of this diploma programme, graduates will be able to:

Understand the concept of policing, investigation techniques of enforcement

agencies.

Manage, lead and use policing and investigation techniques to form effective and
efficient teams.

Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and the use of skills befitting an officer of

the enforcement agencies.

Apply the knowledge acquired to serve as officers of the enforcement agencies in

any public or private sector organization.

Understand the criminal justice system, the roles and functions of its three
component.

Understand the responsibility, need for cooperation and commitments for the
preservation of peace and safety through effective policing, enforcement and
investigation.

Understand crime and deviant behaviour, their causes, how to prevent and
investigate them.

5. RATIONALE FOR THE INCLUSION OF MODULE IN THE PROGRAMME

This module is designed to enable students to learn and practice different ways of
communicating with people in their daily life, be it written or oral communication. With
this knowledge students would be able to identify and use different types of
communication methods. This will be very useful to them as it will increase their
confidence in communicating in English especially when they interact in the working
environment, in future.

The knowledge for basic communication English can be transferred to some of the other
modules in the course as part of the language competencies required for learning

13. TEACHING-LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT STRATEGY

Students will be given notes and handouts before each class and they are required to
read ahead before they are being explained by the lecturer in the class. This is to
enable students to have their own understanding on areas to be discussed and to seek
lecturers explanation on grey areas. Exercises in the form of tutorials, assignments, quiz
and presentations will be conducted to assess students understanding on the topic.

14. SYNOPSIS

This module deals with effective communication skills in the English language. The
objective is to equip students with the knowledge on how to handle and manage
materials resources especially dictionaries and books. Students will also have to build up
their vocabulary through an understanding of word formation and word relations.
Reiteration of basic conventions of language production like tenses, subject-verb
agreement and punctuation will also be covered. A large portion of the module will be
dedicated to reintroducing students to the common communicative functions of
language, especially the illocutionary aspects of oral discourse
