Oral Exam I: Conversing in Spanish

Monday, May 1st

Guidelines

o Each student submits two questions on Monday, April 24nd, 2017

o Groups of 4 students
o Conversation in Spanish with group members
o Notes are not allowed
o No make-ups

Format

In teacher-assigned small groups students will discuss various topics taken from the questions
they will submit and others provided by the instructor. Each member of the group will take a turn
serving as the moderator. The first student-moderator will select a question at random, read it
aloud, and then answer the question. The other students in the group will respond to the
moderators answer and provide their own answers and/or comments.

When a question has been discussed thoroughly, the next student will choose a question and the
group will repeat the process. Each group must answer each question thoroughly before moving
on to another. Groups are not allowed to skip a question simply because they dont like it or
because it may be difficult to answer. All students should be familiar with the themes of chapters
8, 9, and 10.

There is no predetermined number of questions that must be completed during the class hour, as
long as the conversation keeps flowing and everyone has the opportunity to speak.

Students, you must speak in complete sentences and include details. You must engage with your
peers; do not simply wait to be asked questions. The incorporation of grammar, vocabulary, and
content from the course will be indicative of your understanding and language skills.

The oral exams will take place in the regular classroom and during the regular class time.

Questions

Each student will submit two questions that pertain to the themes of chapters 8, 9, and 10. Keep
in mind that the questions should generate discussion. Do not write a question that requires a
simple yes/no answer unless it is followed by an additional question asking for more in depth
information. Each question should use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, accents, etc.
Questions will be submitted to the instructor on Monday, April 24th, 2017. Students will not know
which questions are selected until the day of the oral exam.

Evaluations

Students will be evaluated based on content, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, pronunciation, the
questions they submit, and their interaction with classmates. For more details, consult the rubric
posted on Canvas.

There are no make-ups. If you are absent on the day of the Oral Exam, you will receive a zero.
