I. Read the text: (30p)
Two people I really admire are my aunt and uncle, but for very different reasons. I only
met them a few years ago, which may sound strange, but its true. I had lived abroad with my
parents until I was twelve. My aunt is really quite an unusual person. She is in her late forties
now but she looks much younger than she is. She has long curly dark hair and a small snub nose.
She wears quite smart clothes and likes to wear black a lot. She talks and laughs a lot. She is
interesting because she had had some unusual jobs. First she was a translator and worked with
refugees when they arrived in this country. Now she works for a charity, driving lorries. The
reason I admire her is because she is so kind. She always has time to listen to anybody who
needs to talk to her and she never criticizes any of us.
My uncle is the complete opposite of my aunt. He is very tall and rather thin and he has
got short wavy hair. I am not sure how old he is- about 45 I think. He always wears old clothes,
usually bought from my aunts charity shop. He is very quiet and calm. He works very hard and
a typical habit of his is to forget to eat when he is working because he is so interested in what he
is doing. My aunt has to remind him to eat, sometimes she has to go and put the food under his
nose. He designs computer games and he may not be practical in other ways but he is brilliant at
his job. He started working on games as soon as he left college and now he has his own small
company.
I cannot say which of the two is my favourite relative. Luckily, I dont have to choose
between them.
