MATH 7 2017-2018

Mrs. Wilson- wilsone@slcs.us

Millennium Middle School- Room 202 (248)573-8200
Webpage wilsonmathmms.weebly.com

Hello and Welcome! This year we are building on the skills learned in sixth grade by using Go Math 7! This
program offers an engaging and interactive approach to learning the Common Core State Standards. This
program emphasizes understanding, computational fluency, and real life applications. We are going to have an
exciting year of exploring mathematics and learning many new things. I am looking forward to getting to know
each of you and your families.

Content: The seventh grade mathematics program integrates the number system, ratios and proportional
relationships, expressions, equations, inequalities, geometry, statistics, and probability. We will also be
studying how to communicate mathematically, develop critical thinking skills, and utilize the mathematical
practices. The GO Math program includes a write-in student workbook, Math On the Spot videos, and a
variety of online resources at my.hrw.com. Each student will have their own login.

Students are expected to come to class prepared and ready to learn.

Classroom Guidelines
Students need the following supplies in class every day:
Math binder, 3-ringed with labeled dividers (we will write the labels in class)
2 sharpened pencils (pencils have a way to disappear during the school day, bring extra)
Red ink pen for making corrections and providing feedback
Highlighters
Assignment book
Textbook and ISN (Interactive Student Notebook/100-page spiral notebook)
Students should respect themselves and everyone.
Students will handle their assigned graphing calculators with respect and care.
Students should be IN THEIR SEAT and following the directions posted on the board before the
bell rings. The school policy is that two tardies equal a 30 minute detention.
Students should be prepared when the bell rings. This means:
Read the board for assignments, information/directions, and follow those directions.
Begin the Bell Work (May be collected for a grade)
Have pencils sharpened. All work is done in PENCIL.
Have out the assignment from the previous class ready to be corrected using red ink.
Assignment Log and ISN (Interactive Student Notebook)
The teacher dismisses the class NOT the bell.
When absent, it is the students responsibility to get the homework/notes the miss. Every day
the homework and notes are posted on my website wilsonmathmms.weebly.com under
the Notes & Homework tab and the Assignment Log tab. Notes can be copied from the
website, a classmate or from the class copy located in the absent bin. School policy
states that the student has the same number of days absent to complete assignments.
It is expected that all students follow guidelines and rules as outlined by the Student Code of
Conduct in the assignment book.
Respect guest teachers. If you name is left for misbehaving, you will receive a 60-minute detention.

ALL MATH WORK IS TO BE DONE IN PENCIL. (Corrections in RED Ink)

Homework
All homework is to be written in pencil
All work is shown (answers only will NOT receive credit)
An honest and best effort is expected; in other words, attempt the problems even if you feel you
dont understand
Homework is usually assigned daily and due the next day.
Assignments are listed on the board and Assignment Log posted in the back of the room and on Mrs.
Wilsons website at wilsonmathmms.weebly.com
Homework quizzes may be given.
If you are absent, it is essential that you make up the homework you missed as quickly as possible.
If you incorrectly solve a homework problem, you should rework the problem over again until you
understand. Make any corrections in red pen. I may occasionally collect homework and grade specific
problems.
If I cannot read your writing, I cannot assess your learning. You will be requested to redo the
assignment.
A weekly homework completion grade will be posted in Skyward

Late Work
Late homework assignments are accepted the next school day with a parent signature.

Grading
Assignments, tests and quizzes will be graded on demonstration of knowledge and accuracy reflecting
student achievement relative to the 7th grade mathematics curriculum. Please refer to pages 47-48 in the
Parent/Student Handbook. Zeros in Skyward indicate a missing assignment. Please refer to the comment
section for an explanation.

Formative Assessments are worth 30%, this includes class-work, homework, class activities, vocabulary,
notebook checks, and small projects. Homework is assigned to reinforce new learning, and it is assigned
almost every day. Summative Assessments are worth 70%, this includes quizzes, tests, writing, and large
projects.

Need Help in Math?

A list of tutors is available from the counseling office after the first few weeks of school and MMS hosts a
homework help center.

Assignment Book
Students are expected to fill out their assignment book daily. The agenda, homework, and dates of upcoming
assessments are on the white board in the back of the room.

Absent Work/Making Up Quizzes, Tests, and Classwork

All quizzes and tests will be announced in class, posted on my website, and notifications sent through
REMIND. Therefore, students will be required to take the test or quiz even if they are absent the day
before. Tests and quizzes will be made up in class on the day the student returns to school. If a lesson is
missed, it can be made up at home. The number of days allowed for make-up work will match the number of
days absent. However, when a lesson requires my help or specific materials, you will need to stay after school
to complete the lesson.

The Assignment Log is posted in the classroom and on my website. You are expected to check what you
missed by looking on the Assignment Log and taking the appropriate papers from the class bin.

Habits of Mind
At MMS, we continue to infuse the Habits of Mind (HOM) in our classroom. These HOMs refer to thinking
skills, work habits, and attitudes that are needed for problem solving academically and socially. Inclusion of
these habits is important to student success. Practicing these habits not only positively affects academic
grades; it also promotes success in other areas outside of school.

Communication
Check my class website at wilsonmathmms.weebly.com (follow the drop-down menus)
frequently for scanned copies of notes and homework assignments, announcements, and more.

Parents, please feel free to contact me with any questions/concerns, my email address is wilsone@slcs.us

Should you have concerns about the suggested materials list, please feel free to contact me. If you are
unable to provide your student with a binder and divider tabs, we will work with you to ensure that your
student has the necessary tools to be successful this school year in math.

I am looking forward to a wonderful school year and seeing everyone at Curriculum Night on Thursday,
